Z28 w/ 283

Well since i doubt ill finish my trans am, ive turned my attention to my Z28. I got it stripped down, now all i need isa rebuild kit and clean it up, then i could put it together. Its a 1979 Z28 w/ 283....a 1966 283 i believe.(i knoe a 350 would be hella lot better but the 283 was free) Ive heard some good thangs bout the 283 and some bad thangs. What yalls opinon on this engine....What would i hafta do to it to make it push my Z28 in the 13's?

the 283 wasn't a bad engine, it just wasn't big enough to move a big car. 13's is unlikely with one in your car without doing alot of work (cost would end up close to a crate 350 that would do it with a warranty) you havea pretty small bore size (3.9" or so) and only a 3.00" stroke the bad boy of the vette was only 283 hp. with fuel injection
