very well said and I agree highly on the part where you stated that "were painted as street racers even if we dont race". In my opinion, if you want to street race than street race .. your an idiot if you do so. But just leave the people alone who enjoy building a car with there two hands and modifying it to suit your personality etc.. You dont see me going out and shooting up places, and doing drugs and what not and I get harrassed all the time just for driving a lowered car. Im not gonna lie, I hang out at tims pretty much every night and people say that i have no life and im a loser because me and all my buddys hang out and drink coffee and smoke. Personally, I dont care what you think but just stop bustin ***** because we like having fun, we like shootin the and we like talkin about our cars and what we did to them. It is a hobbie and it is an interest to many many many people. Think back to the old days where our parents/gaurdians had old muscle cars and what not. Sure they raced and got away with it and i know laws have changed now, but they had hobbies. I can guarantee that 60% of cops now did the exact same thing when they were our age. All i can say is that when a cop drives by us and we are just crusin, dont pull a U-turn to pull us over for our car being to low or having an exhaust .. just keep driving and let us be.

my explanation

i used this in the other post.. but i think this is relevant so here goes:

i think this is a never ending battle between us and the govt. Like all gov'ts everything they say is a lie. They say take it to the track but they set up traps at the track. They say we drive heavily modified cars and its not allowed.. welll last time i checked i am willing to bet 8 outta every 10 hondas have these " heavy mods": intake header exhaust, short shfiter. Is that heavy? Last time i checked an SiR ran 14.7 at the track with those mods. A stock STI runs just below 13's if I am not correct. Even better the new corvette Z06 runs 11.7sec. So how do you compare that? I dont know how you can say either an m5 is more dangerous or a "heavily modded" civic is? when the civic has a fraction of the horsepower.

The problem is not modified cars or civics... but the people who drive them. Earlier in this thread i read someone saying stricter driving tests or re-evaluation every two years. Although this would help keep dumb drivers that dont know what the flashing greenlight means off the road. It will not tackle our street racing problem. The issue is the people driving these cars. They may pass all the tests but they can still drive like an A-hole on the street. I've seen on countless occasions people weaving in and out traffic, unless your wife or g/f is having a baby or someone is badly hurt in your car i dont think anyone should be doing this regardless of how dumb or how slow some drivers are. This will not change untill you pull them off the streets... but how do you go abouts that? Maybe increase the age of when you can get your license to 21 or something... I dont know. Hence the never ending battle. Unless they ban civics and any other type of car or bike that you can modd, increase the price of insurance so noone can afford to drive, then and only then will we have taken another step to eliminate our street racing problem but even then we'll problably find something else to make us go fast.

Hopefully this problem doesn't get any worse, i know that doesn't matter if i get in a 500bhp M5 or a 500whp Civic. I know ill be signalling every turn and going 5 over the speed limit but I know i won't be streetracing with my friends or anyone for that matter.

Keep it safe

Nice one

It's sad that if you have anything visibly done to your car now your getting pulled over.

I was pulled over in My Mustang and the cop was asking me if it was modified.

I said "It's a ****ing 4 cyl. Check out the single exhaust." .

I could just imagine if I brought out the Camaro. I won't be bring it out until I know it will outrun a cop because simply put . There Not Crushing my Investment because the THINK I race.

Of course it's modified. Find a '78 Intake, Exhaust manifolds, Carb., Air cleaner. F'ing Commies.

I've been pulled over total of three times in my "modified" car. All three times the car has had the same modifications. I was speeding the first time I got pulled over, the cop didn't ask anything about modifications, just why I was speeding. He wrote me a ticket and I was off. That was over three years ago though, I would imagine his attitude may have changed by now.

The second time I got pulled over I was just driving along Steeles minding my own business and obeying the laws (well most of them at least). The reason I got pulled over was that I didn't have my front license plate on properly (it was on the dashboard). The cop told me why I was pulled over and I agreed that I would put the plate back on as soon as possible, which is when I got the proper bracket for the plate. The cop asked me if the car was modified and I told him that it was, but my insurance company was notified about the modifications and I have had the car certified and emission tested recently. He asked for me to turn the wheels from lock to lock to see if the tires rubbed. After that checked out, he asked what I have under the hood with a grin on his face. I popped the hood for him (knowing he was a good guy) and told him about it. He liked it, then he told me to have a nice day. I have no problems with these cops. I treat every officer with respect until they give me the reason not to, like the next guy...

The following day after I got pulled over on Steeles, I was pulled over at a radar trap for the same license plate violation. This cop was an *** hat though. He told me why he pulled me over and I gave him the same explanation that I gave the officer the day before. I also told him that the officer gave me a warning and I was aware of the urgency of the situation and I was going to have it fixed as soon as possible. This guy was being pretty rude at this point despite my respectfulness. He ordered me to start the engine again and bring the RPMs up to 3000. I did this and then he said "Ohhhh wow thats so loud!". I disagreed with him and he told me "my car has an engine three times the size and its not even that loud". I looked at him funny and asked how that is of any relevence considering his exhaust is stock and mine obviously isn't. I also told him that the car had been through an emissions test three times with the exhaust system, through an MTO road stop, and had been pulled over by two other officers who didn't have a problem with it. He didn't like that I was challenging his accusations so he then asked me to open the hood, in an attempt to find more things wrong with my car. So I unlatched the hood pins (which don't usually come on Festivas), lifted up my fiberglass hood (also not stock on Festivas) and showed him the engine bay full of things that any person (especially one with a vast knowledge of all things automotive, especially exhaust systems) would know didn't come on a Festiva. He then asked me "Have you changed anything here?". It was pretty obvious that I had changed a few things considering I had an intercooler under the hood at that time, so I looked at him for a few seconds to see if he was joking, and then told him that pretty much everything had been changed. He told me close the hood and to go into the car and wait while he wrote me a ticket for the plate. He then comes back and hands me the ticket and continues to grill me about the exhaust. I repeated what I had said previously and then he threatened to ticket me for it. Rather then have two tickets to fight, I decided to shut up. The cop walked away, without saying anything. I waited there for a few seconds before realizing that the cop was done, and rather then be professional and tell me that our business was finished, he decided to just leave me there guessing.

The whole point of this novel is this. There are obviously all sorts of cops out there. You have cops that don't care about modifications and treat you the same as they would treat any other driver, you have the cops that take an interest in modifications but still enforce vehicle safety laws, and then you have ignorant know-it-all cops who bust your ***** and try to ticket you for things they clearly know nothing about. My advice is this: If you get pulled over, even if you're getting pulled over twenty times a day, even for the same bullshit reason you always get pulled over for, treat the officer with respect and don't give them any attitude. Show them that you are a respectful individual and hopefully they will treat you with the same respect you have given them and not have a grudge against you from the instant you open your mouth. It's not their fault you're getting pulled over, it's your fault because you're giving them a reason to pull you over (obnoxious exhaust, bouncing all over the road, other obvious safety issues, etc)... they're just doing their job and following their orders. Cops are obviously targeting modified cars this year, so when you go out driving you should do so knowing that you may be pulled over. Just co-operate with them and be calm and hopefully nothing will happen. If you get a ticket that you feel is unfair, fight it and bring proof that supports your defense to court. The odds are in your favor, if you prepare your defense with technical information, chances are the judge will side with you and help you out with the ticket.

This has worked for me so far. Sure, I have one ticket, but I'm sure if I treated the cop like an then I would have a few more. Getting one single ticket in the 5 years I've been driving that modified car is not bad at all in my opinion.

The main advantage you had with the fastiva, was no stickers, or spoilers, or any other retarded . That car looked good.

A stickerless car with no spoilers, performance exhaust (not the 4 inch variety) and a reasonable lower stance will get you by.

Remember why you are modifying your car. Don't be stupid and drop your car so that the tires are inside your fenders or put on a ridiculous 4 inch cannon exhaust that does nothing for your car. Carefully plan what you do and how it'll affect your car.

Personally I don't put anything on my car that doesn't improve it's performance.

It has a spoiler! It's a stock spoiler though, so it's very subtle and most people probably don't even notice it.

I agree 100%

I have been stopped for speeding 4 times...

Once on the 407, 40km/h over the limit. He gave me a 10km/h over ticket.

Once on Clarence, 20km/h over and I was let off with a "warning".

Once on Dixie, 80km/h over the limit , let off with a "warning".

And once on a NewYork interstate...20mph over the limit. A ticket was given for the full amount but he wrote the license number wrong, ticket invalid...He didn't care that the car was lowered, modified and had the exhaust cutout open (sounded like a Mack truck).

And then the other bullshit spot checks...

Once for "exhaust too loud", but this was when I had a stock exhaust on the car. He just left after I told him it was stock...

Once for no front license plate (on the dash board), I was given a warning for it. It was two chick cops too . Again, they did not care that the car was far to low, didn't mention the aftermarket exhaust this time, ect.

And then once by the MTO just outside of Darknights one year, no tickets, no warnings.

Just be respectful to them and they should typically give the same respect back. But I guess my car doesn't look like your typical riced out import...

Best way to deal with cops. Yes sir/Mam, no sir / Mam have a nice day .... Ect.

In 10 years of driving I've been issued 4 tickets. 1 I am going to fight in december , 2 written by an who accused me of having no insurance before I even had the window all the way rolled down. (plate on the dash & no Tail pipes).
and the first ticket I got doing 130km/h in an 80km/hr zone in a '85 Fifth Ave. I was polite and the cop dropped it to 10 over!

Got some good Officer quotes "WTF was that" , "You won" , "You were sideways @100kph" , "Gimme your F***ken license"

I think I helped pave most of the 400 series hiways.....

Last I checked the 401 Eastbound and 427 North both needed repaving AND widening. Better get some more tickets I'm tired of it taking 45 minutes from Eglinton to Hwy 7 on the 427 during rush hour because it's 2 lanes Northbound.

imagine if this ridiculous bill was passed into law, laying charge would be at the cops discretion, lol, they will fill the jails! meanwhile suspended drivers and repeat drunks and stoned drivers are everywhere clipping parked cars, impeding the flow of traffic. I am even against the 120 speed limit on the highway, i would rather that everyone else white knuckle drive to max 100kmh, while i pass them, these people cant handle 120, thanks MTO your licensing standards are the freakin lowest in the world, i figure every examiner at MTO is taking bribes or blind as a bat. if the Gov agreed to build a track in GTA how long befores its built and who will be contracted to build it? the same people that bring you road closures for the entire summer without getting anything finished, yeah 2500ft in 5 years and 100 million dollars. sry just a bad mood today. And they will probably add speed bumps mid track.
