Not as far as I know, there are way too many people out there with aftermarket turbo kits on their cars.

I think the better question is how is ur insurance going to react if u got into an accident with a turbo kit u didnt disclose to them

you might want to ask gldwngr.. he seems to know lots bout law and legality for some reason *cough *cough

I think technically, anything used to improve the performance of the vehicle is illegal. But most cops wouldn't be able to tell anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it. I got pulled over a couple times with a modded turbo car, and the only thing they were worried about was the emission system. And YES aftermarket body kits should be illegal, along with those fart cans.

After-market turbos are legal provided your emissions control equipment remains intact and functioning following installation of the turbo. However, your insurance company may refuse to insure your car if you install a turbo or any other performance-enhancing modification.

No, I mean, cats, or in the case of my Rabbit, they couldn't hit me with that, as it never had one. They did however, check and make sure that the charcoal canister was in the fender, and hooked up to the system. Basically, don't take your cat off. Most intake systems can be modded, and still have the car pass an etest. Oh, and a cat will only lose you about 3 to 8 hp depending on the setup. Not worth the $300 ticket.

The price of a cat, plus labour. Shop around for the price of a universal replacement. It's not anywhere near as expensive as it used to be in past.

Use grinder to cut out section of your exhaust.

Insert cat, weld.

Even better to use that grinder and cut the cat open and put a test pipe through it and weld it back up.

Which probably won't pass emissions tests, plus if you're caught with a deliberately disabled cat, you're looking at hefty fines plus your car being taken off the road until properly equipped again.
