Anyone tried to mail-order radar detector into Canada?

Don't know when the next time I'll be in the states, but Im looking for a radar/laser unit. Havent decided which model yet, but has anyone tried to mail-order a detector?
You are not allowed to use it, but you ARE allowed to posses it, which is a strange law. Not sure what would happen at the border.

Got any local connections? Maybe I should poking around Pacific Mall??

dpoubt your gonna be able to order them, theres too much temptation to use it. i think that law is mainly for americans who come over here. my suggestion to you, go over the boarder, buy one and bring it back in your pocket, they can search your car but they cant search you without reason

I do not want to say that peopole may be able to get one over, because I usually get that one guy who got it seized or worse, convicted whining that I gave false information. This is the same when I provide information on minimizing duties when you order from out of the country. The techniques work 90% of the time, but people enjoy complaining about the 10%.

Radar detector devices are legal in three provinces (BC, AB, and SK I believe), but not in Ontario. Yes, you could risk ordering one and it could arrive with no problems. However, there is a chance that it will get seized by the Canada Border Services Agency.

If you are hell-bent on obtaining one, there are certain ways to decrease your chances of getting it seized by us. That hint is in the previous paragraph

Ok maybe im missing something, but as far as I know only the HTA prohibits 'speed measuring devices' and it says you can not sell them and that you canot drive on roads with one, EXCEPT when transporting a sealed unit from manufacturer to consignee. AND THATS IT, means I can have a hundred of the ****ers in my house, a few more on the front lawn, a couple on the rooftop and thousands of units shipped to me every damn day of the year. Under what authority do you seize one at the border from a shipper or even a buddy of mine transporting one for me sealed in his trunk(I assume you're a customs agent)

Prohibited electronic device. There is one company that is on the watchlist, which means any order will be held up. I know that a few officers will outright take it if they find it in your vehicle if you are a resident of Ontario coming back here...
I will not even go into the radar scramblers and radar-detector detectors :P

It is done on behalf of the Ontario Provincial Police's request. The procedure before would be to note who was ordering it and input it into the system. Other law enforcement divisons have access to this database, so if you do get pulled over, you usually get asked if you mind if they search your vehicle. Yes, you could say no at this point, since I know they need consent, but do you really want to give them an excuse to bug you some more?

Again, if you want to order one, feel free. Just do not complain about "the man" hassling you if you seem to get pulled over more often or if you do not recieve anything. Personally, if the d-memo was never sent out, I would clear it.

Mmkay, so don't touch my radar detector, if the powers are only under S.78 of HTA, then you guys have no right to seize a sealed packaged radar detector that I say im shipping to consignee.

God damn this police state province and city, I'll fight all I can.
And BTW if a cop asks to search my vehicale with no cause you damn right I'm gonna resist.

FYI, the only time you may have a radar detector in your vehicle is if it is in a sealed package with a shipping label affixed to it.
