Traffic----anyone notice how the DVP never seems to not be busy until after like 11 pm to like 5am???

Immigrants----I'm a first gen. immigrant from Guyana (soutn america) and I work and go to school for Mech. Eng. and I pay my taxes. It took us a year to get our papers to enter Canada and that process is about 5 years now but I'm sure that differs from country to country.

I personally know thaht people from Guyana claim refugee status here with no pure B.S. stories...yes admittedly but the country has nothing sufficient to offer smart young people and so their parents do whatever it takes to get their kids a better life.

To sum all of that up - Politics!

I don't usually chime in on racial/political issues as my background is Filipino however I was born and raised in Toronto.

I left Toronto this summer due to poor progressive growth in Toronto. The infrastructure is clearly not capable of handling the volume of the population per city block and this in turn creates a snowball effect.

Canada lets immigrants in with no discrimination as we have all these "human rights" "civil rights etc., which for the government looks good as there is no discriminiation, they're increasing population as Canada is underpopulated, and of course, it costs these immigrants to come into the country hence the government reaps from it.

Yes we know these immigrants have suffered in their home country, not all but the majority, due to poor economy, pesos/rupees/and whatother currency being paid to live a daily life as we live here, but that means, they come here, with not much to offer the country. The majority of the last decade immigrants are political or economic "escapees". Hence, Canada scoops them up and because Toronto is the hub of the country, they flock here.

Less than equivalent education to North American education means, the people born, raised and educated in Canada expect an average 'x' amount salary for the schooling they've done. But because we have a large population of residents with sub-par Westernized education, but never theless know how to to accounting, or stock a shelf, or weld or fix a car... they get paid less. Employers know this, and can hire these immigrants with now working visas for lower pay. snow ball snow ball snow ball. Poor economy. Higher rate in welfare applications and acceptances. Ummm... part of my salary pays to subsidize that welfare fund. I don't work hard for immigrants to come to Toronto, to live off of me. Because they can't find work. Try harder. Lower your standards and work anywhere and build yourself up.

All this doesn't help with an even more corrupt government than before who doesn't put money into the country or city.

This is my rant. I've seen Toronto which I've seen to be a great city and once fun to live in, no longer. Excessive violence. Poorly maintained city. Annual hikes in most products, goods, services. Pathetic policing for the most part. (Apologies to my police friends). More racism than before. It's become so diverse with poorly educated population, there will be many conflicts.

And this year, I left and moved a little further out. And much happier. not the best, but happier.

What should be done from the beginning or implemnted over time is any immigrants applying to get into Canada is

A) You have no skill that can benefit the country, you don't come in regardless of how much money you have. By skill I mean... logging, welding, technical, mechanical.. trade work. There is not enough trades people in Canada. Everybody and their dog are office people or want to be office people, becuase you make salary/wage, benefits and sit indoorspushing paper.

B) No more people in Toronto or other major cities. Send the immigrants coming in to smaller towns and help them build their economy. Provide an incentive for business owners to invest in a business or start a business in Nunavut or Medicine Hat or ButtFukNowhere. There's more trees in BC... send some loggers down there. Send metal fabricators to Alberta. This provides an allocation of skilled people out over the country instead of one city where everybody is chasing after the same pot of gold that doesnt exist.

And I can say this because I am 30. I'm a high school graduate, went to Devry for 6months. I co-own 2 car forums. I own an auto detailing company. I co-own a tire company. All currently successful and still growing progressively in addition to my current position of Operations Manager for www.bimmian.com. My family is far from wealthy so I did not have family wealth. In my life I have worked as the Front Desk bitch in hotels, pushed paper to managing departments in various hotels. I have done production welding, I work on cars. So I city growth both from the end user perspective to business owner perspective.

And all this becuase I hate traffic. Thanks for the interesting thread.
