GODSMACK IV
So I went and picked up the new Godsmack CD today, and I was amazed at how good it is. It absolutely Kicks A$$......in fact I think it could be their best CD to date.
If you like Godsmack, I highly recommend buying it. It's not very often that a band continues to make CD's that are as good or better than their first, but these guys just keep it coming.
A lot of the younger guys I hang out with like the harder faster stuff, but I've never really gotten into too much of the speed metal. I like it as hard as it comes, (often times harder) but I actually like to hear what the singer is singing......not screaming!
Anyway, I think they kept it real without going too commercial. I love Disturbed's first CD, but I think their sound changed with the next two they did. I feel the same way about Metallica......I didn't really care for anything they did after the "Black" album. IDK, just one guy's opinion.
Has anyone else heard the rest of this CD yet? I like track #6 ~ "No Rest for the Wicked"..... and #7 ~ "Bleeding Me"......I also like the way they did a second version of Voodoo and called it "Voodoo Too".
I'll say one thing: This CD is going to get worn out before I'm through with it. It was also recorded in a way so that you can crank the hell out of it before it destorts. Unfortunately Faceless was recorded that way. I love that CD, but unless you have a 7 band EQ to adjust through the different songs, it does distort at mid-range levels.

I have it. Haven't listened to all of it yet. But Godsmack could do anything, I'd probably like it, as long as Sully Erna was singing. I think from what I have heard I still like Faceless the best, but only time will tell.

As with any CD they have, there are 1 or 2 songs that could be classified as mellow, but the rest of the songs definitely make up for it. One of the things I like about these guys and their CD's........Your not just buying it for 1 or 2 good songs and that's it.
The majority of this CD remains to hold that Bad-A$$ sound that makes you like them in the first place. Personally I have to say that this one and Faceless are better than the first two,.....and that's because the new drummer Shannon Larkin is an absolutely KICK-A$$ drummer that meshes very well with bassist Robbie Merrill.
I hear not only Godsmack of old, but they've included some new riffs that IMO, enhance their already killer sound. Sometimes I wonder where they get these people that write reviews on bands. I look at it this way......they're entitled to their own opinion about Godsmack, but if it's negative in any way.....it's BS!!!!!!
JMHO as a devoted Godsmack Fan.

i have the first three and i like the first the most.
the reviews i read were good, but they said that they had changed and got more intillectual or something with their lyrics, so its more mellow.

I guess "Serenity" or "Voodoo" are considered to be mellow songs, but sometimes I get in those moods where I need to give my brain a break from constant Super Heavy guitar riffs and cymbal crashes and just mellow out for a while.
Bottom line...........the majority of this CD is Hard n Heavy, and anyone with a halfway decent stereo will hear how the recording of it was improved from Faceless. I actually played the hell out of Faceless to where I got tired of it, but having been in the studio to record demo's myself, I can tell you the recorded quality of this CD is superior to the other ones. Faceless was recorded in a way that distorted before you could get the volume up real high.
Back to Godmack IV....not only do the Bass Drum kick and the Bass Guitar pound the hell out of my subs, the clarity of everything else sounds way better through my 6.5" speakers than the previous three CD's. So, unless you're not a big Godsmack fan to begin with, this is a CD that's absolutlely worth the $15.00 it cost to purchase.

I like the first two CDs. Haven't heard any of the 4th. I like the first the best, but Awake is a real kickass song too.
I've actually mellowed some myself and shifted the stuff I listen to from real heavy stuff like Godsmack, Korn, Staind to older rock like Skynyrd, Foghat, Nazareth, ACDC, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple. Some great stuff came out of the 70s.

Arch- where did you get your CD from? I heard most of the CD on XM before it came out, it sounded pretty good.
Let the last track play out- you probably have a hidden track on there that you didn't know about..

I completely forgot about that last track, but now that you mention it, I remember seeing a very wide gap on the play side of the CD. You can tell when you look at it that there's something up with that part of the CD. I'll have to go out to my car and play the last track, then fast forward it till it starts playing again.
I thought is was kind of cool the first time I heard the last part of Voodoo as well. When it first came on, my volume was cranked up so loud, I thought I got rear ended,.....I almost SH*T MY PANTS.
