I have two uncles that are ASE certified Master something or other. They were telling me less and less people are actually going all out and getting that done. They are just becoming techs so they can start work right away.

I am an ASE Master Tech, but its a load of BS. I know ASE Master Techs who cant tie their shoelaces.

I only took the tests so I could get a job.

I was going to go get ASE certified right before I left advance auto parts to join the army. People I worked with said it was stupid, They make some people go through it just so they get to wear the ase thing on thier uniform at work.

Well, yes. You do get paid more, depending on the place you work.

But I personally didnt learn anything from it, I just did it so I could get a better job. Hence why I think its silly.

But, if you seriously want to be an Auto tech, its a good step in the right direction.

im certified for A4 and A5. not anywhere near the field anymore, but it looks good on any resume you prepare to be certified in something.

and by the way, 87/200 is kinda pathetic

not what i heard. theres one here in rancho cucamonga. i actually worked with a guy during my apprenticeship who went there. they do "hands on" but nothing that will prep you for actually working on cars. this guy worked flag hours and he wasnt making any money cuz he took too damn long.

honeslty its cheaper to be an apprentice to a master tech who has been doing this for 20 or 30 years. i learned so many tricks and techniques. and i got paid 300 a week for it!
