heres the thing, a corvette needs special ramps in order to get onto the hoist at the gm dealerships, ive got a friend who works for the dealership and she tells me all this . so right there the car is pretty damn low. sure they have some wheel gap butthe front end is inches off the ground. so what consitiutes a car being too low? wheel gap or ground clearance? i can see wheel gap being an isssue because of tire rub and that it can upset the cars geometry while cornering if they hit a bump, but a car that doesnt have enough ground clearance also has issues and yes you will see corvette owners dodging pot holes and slowing down for train tracks jsut as much as the guy int he modifed car, or just the guy with a brain who doesnt want to prematurly wear out his suspension or damage a wheel.

Umm...
I like the idea of an inspection booth aswell.
In reponse to you gldwngr what about the child seat inspections put on by the police all the time? They are on CityTV (BT) all the time. The cops check the seat and work with the owner of the vehicles to fix any problems. Why arn't they isued tickets? Or are they? Can't cops talk to owners of vehicles to teach them about restrictions and how problems can be solved?

It isn't an either-or game. You don't get to bargain "not street racing your car" IF the cops will turn a blind eye to illegal or unsafe mods on your car

Less fines and headaches? Only until you get caught.
.
You know what's funny? I don't think you have ever owned or driven a modified car that has been targetted by ignorant cops.

My car is fully legal... It has a stock exhaust, Eibach Pro-kits, SiR front lip, some really nice 16" wheels with a nice offset, and a nice front grill. The entire car was paint matched (painted rocker panels, rear factory skirts, etc...) The only engine upgrade was a bolt-on JRSC and DC header. which is known to be CARB legal. HTA states that anything that is CARB legal is also legal on Canadian roads.

My car "looks" modded, and automatically, I got targetted when I was leaving the track. I actually got a muffler ticket, and also obstructed license plate covers (it was an Acura of North Toronto plate cover from the dealership), and also for tinted windows (it's 50% tint from the factory as well). If every cop knows as much as you do, seriously, we wouldn't even have these problems regarding harassment. But the truth is that 90% of the cops don't know jack about cars.

The real issue is cops not knowing what is legal or not, and they would never be able to decipher between all these safety regulations... Basically, the government is trying to make cops into mechanics, and it doesn't work.

Aside from MTO inspections, spot checks, etc... The only way is to have all police officers go through training on autmobiles, safety, etc... Sorry to say, it would take 4+ years like like every certified mechanic would need to get their training. Cops are not mechanics, and are not safety inspectors. It is IMPOSSIBLE for them to decide what is legal or not aside from common things like bald tires, loose body parts, cracked windshields, etc...

Bottom-line is, all the cops are doing is profiling modded cars without any clue at all. Remember when the WRX STi first came out? On the subby forums, guys were getting ticketed for their factory rear spoiler! Yeah, so the car is fully road legal and fresh out of the showroom lot, and there would always ignorant cops ruining your day.

So what if you decide to race legally at the track? People enjoy the sport of driving/racing with the most convenience possible and cheapest possible. I am sorry to say, but having spot checks and "suprrisingly" strict inspections at the track is going to turn everyone away for sure. So factor in $50-80 in gas money to get to the track, 2 hour drive, and all you end up with are BS tickets REGARDLESS how legal your car actually is... because quite frankly, none of the cops would know!

Quite obviously, booting around on the streets, chilling at a local spot, etc.. and rubbing against many other streetracers out there will eventually turn a "track racer" into a streetracer. You'd be surprised how many friends I used to know who were dedicated track racers have actually start doing runs on the streets again... sigh.

Good post Tony The Tiger

most german "normal" cars are limited to 155mph as a gentlemens agreement...
there is no such thing as a vin number power rating thingy or whatever you said...
there is nothing illegal about driving a 2000hp car on the street that can exceed 300mph... as long as it meets the requirements of the hta.
Maybe you should open yer eyes before opening yer mouth. Go back and read more closely what I posted, I said "I stumbled across something in a reg/hta/act or something somewhere that said something along the lines of this - there is a digit in the VIN numbers that tells of rated HP of that vehicle and you may NOT exceed this power rating by more than 10%. Now I wasnt specifically looking for that, it's just something I skimmed over and Im not even sure it applies to cars/light trucks, but it involves VIN numbers and max power output allowable, so what can that possibly be for???. "

Read carefully there - I NEVER said it DOES apply to cars or light trucks there jackass. This thing DOES exist but I have no idea what its for - I was Googleing something for Marine Boats and output and in the google list (which gives you 90% unrelated searches) saw the thing about the VIN and 10% max exceedence. And I asked "what can that possibly be for???" as in "does anyone know what this is?" - You obviously dont know ***** about it but still mouth off yer narrow limited knowings.

I was simply saying (and informing ppl) that there ARE different sorts of power and or speed maximums allowable for road vehicles when someone said there are none for any vehicle anywhere (or something close to).

So tell me where the fukk Im wrong?

Dumb *** chicks usually missinterpret/misread/read into what guys say, I meant what I said and said what I meant and nothing more, maybe you are a dumb *** chck, who knows - it would explain why yer mouth is open and the bitchy sounding comment.
