Halton Police target street racing...

well it was a lovely Thursday evening, when as usual i decide to head to the local Timmies for a night of stories and chit chat. i had Just gotten my car back, as it was at the bodyshop getting fixed cuz some s decided they would TRY and steal it.

So, i pull into the Tim's at 403 & Dundas and lo and behold there is a Mobile news truck from CH and about 8 cop cars as well and a motorcycle officer. HMM i thought to myself.

So as the evening progresses the cops proceed to pull over the majority or cars and bikes that left the lot. This was all in accordance with the growth of "streetracing" deaths that have occurred in the GTA within the last few weeks. Not everyone that got pulled over recieved a ticket, but what i find utterly appalling is the fact that Halton and Peel decided it was a worth while idea to proceed with such a waste of man power and off all things call the NEWS to inform them that this was going to be taking place.

GIVE ME A ****ING BREAK!!!! what gets me even more is the Political attachment they are trying to tie in with street racing. " LOOK US COPS AND POLITICAL PEOPLE NEED TO SHOW THE COMMUNITY THAT WE ARE COMBATING "STREET RACING"...

My question is, who is getting fooled more... the cops for thinking they are making a differance??? or the people that will watch this in the news over the next few days, thinking that this is effective???

i dont know about you guys...but street racing at this tim's doesnt happen any longer, other then the odd douche bag or a 16 year old in an civic ef doing solo passes in the lot. that is the extent of street racing there nowadays

thats my rant for the day...thank you

"Hey Vern! I'm on tv puttin punks in they place!!"

This is what came to my mind after reading your post.

But then again(hopefully) they could of just pulled over cars/bikes to inform them of new laws etc. Make them aware of fines/ jail time and perhapes complement them on their rides as they drive away into the sunset....

This guy here seems to be the only cop that gets it.
And I always hated this guy in the past.

MOD SQUAD: Don't blame the cars

Jack Kazmierski
Special to Sun Media
June 29, 2007

Street racing is in the news again. By now, most of Canada has heard about the tragic death of truck driver David Virgoe, 48, who was killed when his truck was cut off by two cars allegedly racing down Highway 400, just north of Toronto.

JACK KAZMIERSKI

VOICE OF EXPERIENCE: OPP Sgt. Cam Woolley says that those who modify their cars are not the ones primarily involved in dangerous driving. (DAVE ABEL/Sun Media)

Witnesses say two or three cars were speeding and weaving in and out of traffic when one cut off the tractor-trailer.

Prabhjit Multani, 20, and Nauman Nusrat, 19, are accused in Virgoe's death.

All performance enthusiasts should be outraged. This was a tragedy that could have been avoided.

Street racing is stupid, and is usually carried out by guys who are just too impulsive to control themselves. They may think they look hot weaving in and out of traffic and that they're impressing others, but all they're doing is proving that they're too immature and irresponsible to be allowed behind the wheel of anything but a tricycle.

The fact that the guy behind the wheel thinks he's been blessed with driving abilities that put him above the law is a mere delusion -- one that he'll awaken from as he matures, or one that he'll go to the grave believing.

But here's the point I think all performance enthusiasts (as well as any parents with kids who enjoy tuning their own vehicles) should pay attention to.

In the wake of this horrible crash, Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant pointed out what he'd like to see happen to fix the street-racing problem.

"If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car -- obviously for the purpose of street racing -- then we can seize those vehicles," Bryant said.

"We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your car. We will crush the parts."

In other words, Bryant is saying that modified vehicles are the root of the street-racing problem. He's assuming that the only reason anyone would modify a stock vehicle is to race it on the streets. And if Ontario starts crushing cars, you can bet other provinces will follow.

But that argument doesn't add up. I've searched everywhere to find proof the vehicles involved in Virgoe's death were modified, but can't.

From what I've learned -- and perhaps the investigation will prove me wrong -- the vehicles involved were stock. These were not performance enthusiasts' modified cars.

In fact, earlier this year, a cabbie was killed in Toronto when two other punks raced their vehicles down a busy city street. But again, these fools were racing mommy and daddy's high-end European sedans -- not modified cars they spent their hard-earned money on.

And just a few days ago, two Americans were apprehended racing their stock Corvettes down the same highway where the truck driver was killed. Clocked at more than 200 km/h, their vehicles came from the factory with more power than most of us who modify our rides will ever have under the hood.

But maybe I'm biased. Since I'm working on my own project vehicle, maybe I'm not seeing the whole pict-ure. Second-guessing myself, I looked through notes I took a few years ago while interviewing OPP Sgt. Cam Wooley. He's been patrolling the highways for decades, and offered some objective insight into the problem.

I asked Wooley if it's only the guys with the modified cars that he sees racing on our highways.

"No," he said. "There are some guys who modify their cars as a labour of love. It's a sculpture to them and to a certain extent you are what you drive, especially to a young man whose car is his identity.

"So some of them will do some racing-style modifications, but more for the looks. It's just like most soccer moms don't enter the Camel Trophy races with their Land Rovers. It's really the same thing.

"So just because somebody personalizes their car doesn't mean they're going to drive badly. In fact, with some of our worst crashes, the cars haven't been modified at all.

"There's another type of road racing -- the young folks who get into that spur-of-the-moment race with their parents' car, which could be anything, even a minivan."

Quite simply, those of us who spend our hard-earned dollars creating what to us is a work of art, aren't going to risk crashing it in a race. We wouldn't want our aftermarket rims or custom paint job to be scratched, let alone risk total destruction of a vehicle that took us years to create.

That doesn't mean you'll never catch a modified car racing down a street or a highway. But the person racing that vehicle would do the same thing even if he or she were driving a stock minivan. Stupid people will do whatever their impulses tell them to, regardless of the vehicle.

Punish such rogue drivers the full extent of the law, but don't assume that all performance enthusiasts, and their modified cars, are to blame.

Well atleast this cop is smart enough to understand that, and hes trying to help.

I'm against street racing, but I'm not against tuning/modifying cars.

and I think the rest of the cops should think like this cop.

SGT Cam Woolley is a good guy. One of the few on any police force who's got his head on straight. I've talked with him a few times, at meets, and at the track.

Wooley is a ****ing retard. He knows sweet **** all.

But mst of that is true. The cars that caused the accident were not modified. The only part is is false is the ones with the Vettes. No one clocked them speeding. They are just guessing at the speed. One Vette has been modified. They found reciepts for upgrades on the car worth over $15 grand.

So "alledged" street racing kills a trucker - thats just BS. Speeders changing lanes rapidly caught a trucker off guard (perhaps tired) who was manouvering from a wrong lane and rolled his own rig - sounds more reasonable.

61 yr old driving BMW sweeps across 4 lanes of traffic on 427 to catch an exit at the last possible moment causes trucker to flip his rig and spill rocks on the road. What would have happened if that trucked died? How would they tag/label that?

Old lady in the last couple weeks driving the 401 hit a guy who was changing a flat on the side of the road - sent him flying 50 feet, pronounced dead on the spot.

How bout we start a new media hype - I can see the headlines now - Michael Bryant says "no more old people on the roads, we will do everything to stop old people from driving, including seizing and crushing their walkers, and denyal of further prescription medicine"

LOL

I think I heard something about the Ontario Ombudsman ripping AGO Mikey a new one, saying fukk face has no right to do the things he claims he can do, in regards to seizing/crushing cars.

Here's a lil pic I found in my paper the other day.

Ya - I saw some of that on the news pulled over some dude in a lowered green VW while the audio over dub was saying that CTV News asked the cops to show them the trouble pots (ya real trouble there). Then I raced over there and started doing donuts in the midlle of the road yelling out "hey coppers, come get yer donuts" - sprayed grafitti on the news truck, set some fires here n there, etc.... cuz thats what we criminal delinquent car freaks do [<--- obviously non of that actually happened]

yup - Brampton Guardian (or some BS like that). Every noiw n then they have a cartoon in it that somehow relates to cars. I don't look through it much tho.

Here's another one I found in there (I posted it like a yr ago in here)
