jl audio is a middle line brand (I worked for teh company that built their subs as well as a few other brands) best sub is a personal thing again, but db drive, powerbass, digital designs (one of only 2 companies making their own the other being rockford) and rf are all good, high end there is no beating critical mass but I don't have a grand to drop on a 12

mine sounds pretty good with a $20 sound card, speakers are the most important link in your audio chain, next is material (mp3's are the worst thing to listen to there is so anything sounds ok)

RF is still owne by James Fosgate (I am a dealer for tehm) JL audio assembles some subs using parts from germany (again I am a dealer for them) jl was started in a garage using lanzar subs relabeled until the owner of lanzar retired in '96 (when I left the company) at that time pyramid bought them, and was suppling parts to some of the companies, but most have gone to the 4 big guys (there are 7 speaker manufacturers in teh world everyone else is either re badged or assembled from their parts)

yeah but you cant power good speakers with a ****** audio driver, or onboard audio. Brian can tell you about that .. thats why he got all this new stuff.

My sound cards was like $30 4 years ago prob, and its decent. Im surprised it still works well actually. I dont have a grand setup for my computer though haha.. I actually just output through my stereo if I so choose, which I may say is pretty bitchin.

I had my home theater receiver hooked to mine, but it got to be a pain to run the sub (I blew my 10" mb quart and didn't have another 10 to steal)

mb quart is part of maxxsonics owners of hifonics. The assembly is done if Florida (I have been in the plant more than once) I also was a rep for JL at one time (they suck to sell)

for mbquart
99% of companies don't tell the whole story in their ads (those are ads) do you really think they would say" we buy our stuff from a company that will sell you the same thing for 5% less than we do"? I was a rep for them and currently carry them in the store I own (although I don't have them listed on the site) they do sell really well to first time buyers who buy on name first though

w7 series subwoofers are high end and not even in the same class as fosgate or any of those other subs. jl holds about 8 patents on that line of subs

Miramar, FL - October 2006

JL Audio, premier manufacturer of loudspeakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, and connection systems for after market automotive and marine audio systems, recently scored a hat-trick in Mobile Electronics magazine's 2006 Dealer's Choice Awards.

Mobile Electronics, the leading auto sound trade publication, canvassed mobile electronics dealers from across the U.S. to name their most respected vendors in four key service areas. JL Audio garnered no less than three first place wins in Customer Service, Sales Support, and Warranty Support - and the company took the second spot in the one remaining category, Tech Support.

"We view our specialist dealers as vital partners in our success, and remain unwavering in our commitment to them," said JL Audio president Andy Oxenhorn, "so it's extremely gratifying to see the effort we put into our dealers relationships validated by our customers. When we do a good job of supporting our dealers, we know that the top-line and bottom-line results will follow."

Headquartered in Miramar, Florida, JL Audio has been manufacturing award-winning, aftermarket auto sound components since the late 1980s. Sold exclusively through specialty retailers throughout the U.S.A., JL Audio's products are distributed in fifty-eight countries around the world. Recipient of numerous awards, JL Audio loudspeakers, amplifiers and subwoofers have been awarded eleven U.S. patents for innovative automotive audio technology. not even close to high end, ever hear a critical mass sub? JL can be bought through distributors all day long (I can even buy them at the local flea market) you keep copying stuff from their website, and most companies will tell you what you want to hear (2 companies build their subs in the US one is digital designs, teh other is rf) you can buy jl online, high end products you won't find online ever. Their patents are for visual specs not speaker design. Again I have been a rep for them and am a dealer for them not a customer.

dont look like visual specs to me... A new (and patent-pending) W-Cone design achieves unprecedented stiffness and torsional rigidity without resorting to heavy metal or composite materials. It also isolates the diaphragm in contact with the listening environment completely from the pressure in the enclosure, further minimizing cone deformation at the extreme output levels that the W7's can generate. two new (patent-pending) technologies were developed: a radially cross-drilled pole piece and a unique vented alloy frame that provides direct cooling to the top-plate of the driver. Combined with massive voice coils, these techniques deliver remarkable real-world power handling and prevent power compression
