I need a new laptop.
I find myself wanting to order a new laptop, I never use my desktop anymore, don't have a monitor, space, etc, etc. So, i'm posting right now on a Compaq Armada E500, with 128 of ram, running XP, with a 14 gig HD, 9 of which is taken up by music. LOL, stupid thing doesn't even have a CD burner, just a cd drive. It's had a pretty easy life, since I don't race much anymore, it doesn't spend much time in my car at all. What would anyone recommend, and give me an idea on what I could expect to spend. Here's a list of what I'd want the new laptop to do, if I were to buy a new one.
1. Music.
2. Movies, I still dl movies to this latop, watch and delete.
3. I play GTA San andreas on my desktop, so if I get rid of the desktop for a laptop, it's got to be able to play that, and my desktop has a gig of ram.
4. Surf, obviously, that doesn't require much of anything, since I'm doing that on this laptop just fine.
5. I'd like to be able to burn DVD's, from the laptop, I burn a pile of them on the desktop.
Other than that, there's not much else I do, I don't play any online games, don't play much for computer games, I prefer to play outside, with the kids. So, any suggestions, or if anyone is interested, I can post full specs on both my laptop and my desktop, and work a trade, what ever.

That's likely going to be what I do after Christmas, got 3 pay checks in January. But, I'd like to hear what everyone thinks I should get, since right now I've got a Compaq, but my desktop is an AMD, and I'm happy with both.
Hmmmm. To be honest, you seem like an average laptop user so the one's they have for roughly a 1000 should be okay for you. BUT, when you say that it as top play San Andreas and that you are not that into video games is contradicting, esp. in a laptop purchase. Laptop video cards either come with xxx amount of mb shared or xxx amount of mb dedicated. The shared ones take that memory out of the ram available whereas the dedicated ones have their own ram to produce better graphics. Dedicated = more money, but awesome graphics. The shared ones can play GTASA but (mostlikely) you can't set it on high etc. If you are not into pc games, go with a shared one. Also, I'd recommend Toshiba.
get a macbook i have one and it is amazingg i burn dvd make them watch them just firne tons of music i use to for djing and it sfast as ****. You can also run a program called parallels which allows u to run xp on the mac which mean su can play ur games faster. Also the mac is 99% immune to nany viruses so u dun have to worry about getting one and compare dto reg pc laptops they r way out there they are amazing no compliants an di knwo for sureee that from nwo on i am getting only macs. My friedn alll got hooked on em and lov ethem cheaps and amazinggg.
i jus bought the hp tablet and i love it. You dont seem to need a very expensive lap top something around the 7-9 hundred range should be good. If you want a reliable computer get a Toshiba. The new hp laptops seem pretty good but that the thing there new so ur takin a risk. heres my new bad boy... http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...37&catid=20356
