Illegal Race? UPDATED WITH PICS
From pulse24
Just days after a husband and wife who were killed by an alleged street racer were laid to rest, police claim the dangerous and illegal activity has resulted in another death.
A two-car collision authorities allege was caused by street racing closed the intersection of Mavis and Eglinton for several hours early Sunday morning.
Police say a Porsche and a Mercedes were speeding northbound on Mavis when the Porsche crossed the centre line and slammed into a southbound vehicle.
The 31-year-old driver of the Porsche, Peter Kippax, was killed and the driver and the passenger in the other vehicle were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities later arrested 39-year-old Allan Kippax, who’s accused of driving the Mercedes and he’s now facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm.
Last Saturday night, Robert and Lisa Manchester were on their way home after celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary when they were hit by an alleged street racer at Yonge and Stouffville Road.
The accident killed the couple and orphaned their seven-year-old daughter.
The Manchesters were laid to rest Friday and the first police officer who arrived at the scene of the crash said he’ll never forget having to break the news to the little girl that her parents wouldn’t be coming home.
“She was asking me why, why couldn't I fix her mummy and daddy, and dealing with that,” Sgt. David Mitchell of York Regional Police said.
“She's the type of little girl -- and you've seen her, cute, innocent little thing, along with those big blue eyes looking right through me, searching for the answers, and -- tell her the truth. Try to put it in her terms as best I could, um -- it's difficult.”
An 18-year-old has been charged in connection to that fatal crash and another suspected racer remains in hospital.
