Imports vs Domestics

What's the percentage of Import to Domestics on this site?

5PointOHNO 08-21-2005 06:21 PM

Why is this in the Street Racing/Smack Talk section?

rabbitman 08-21-2005 06:30 PM

Because of what I figured it would turn into. I thought about Shoot the S**t, but figured everyone would have a good opinion of what was the best car, so here it is.

¼Mile™® 08-21-2005 10:18 PM

Nothing against Imports in any way however it is and always will be only Domestics for me.

I have seen a ton of these threads and after a few posts everyone is bitching about how imports or domestics suck. Lets see how long it takes..

¼Mile™® 08-22-2005 12:08 AM

crossfire i suppose... it will probably be import ownage for awhile, due to all the negative feedback floating around domestics. my parents own a import, but as for me i just want something i can be fast in. im currently looking into buying either a trans am, civic, rx7, skyline, 240sx, or a rabbit cabriolet

Zapa 08-22-2005 01:37 PM

my income is under 500 k / year .

therefore i'm poor .

therefore i drive a domestic car .

GinoLicious 08-22-2005 10:52 PM

Imports rock... I love em.

B6T 08-23-2005 03:19 AM

I'd like to drive an SVT Focus as much as I'd like to drive a VW 1.8T GTI. Just so long as its a well engineered car, its fine by me.

You have to really reconsider what is a domestic and what is an import... a lot of Hondas, Toyotas, and Mazdas are built in North America now.

Z28 MeTaL HeAd 08-23-2005 04:50 AM

I love my Domestics...I'll always be a GM guy no matter what...but I still respect all makes and models of other manufacturers...

Im more of a V8 kinda guy though...so who can argue the sounds of a well running cammed V8 with open exhaust??

I hear sooo many people say "y0 my bros straigth piped 4 with cams sounds like an 8 man!!" no it doesn...sounds nothing like an 8 and never will, nor will a V6...

The raw torque and the sheer sound got me hooked...I'll never turn away from that...ever...

Imports for me... they have their quirks... but it's the feel of the cars (chassis mainly)that do it for me... and by imports i mean european... not japanese...

How about a 750 V12 that makes no sound and no vibrations :)

NOTORIOUS VR 08-23-2005 10:39 AM

^^^ Never mind that... have u ever heard a V12 with an exhaust? Daaaaayumm... sounds sooo good! I can't wait until the new M5's are out... I wanna hear one so bad @ 8000+ RPM! :) [drool]5.5L V10 @ 8k RPM[/drool]

rabbitman 08-23-2005 01:39 PM

I still say that a big block 454, 460, 426, 427 or whatever you can think of, nicely tuned, through 3" duals and glasspacks is the coolest sounding engine ever. :la:

Zapa 08-23-2005 01:44 PM

cool sounding is one thing

wanting to live in your car with your family is another :P

Same could be said for a SBC man...u can take a 302, 305, 307, 327, 331, 350, 355, 360, 383, 389, 390, 400 etc etc SBC and put on a set of headers full exhaust with true duals and glasspacks and its a sweet sound that i personally couldnt live without...

I remember once i drove my Camaro open headers to a shop, i was coming around a corner and i throttled it, went sideways down the rd, and froma distance i could see 2 chinese ppl in a bus shelter, when i came aroudn the corner and stomped on it the sound was so loud and it echoed soo far these 2 guys JUMPED like 4 feet in the air beside Meadowvale Town Centre in was hilarious....

Domestic.
It's a split house really. My mother owns a import(honda) and I love it ,and I own a Domestic and she loves it. Oh well.
Interesting 19 for import 9 for domestic.. Thought Import would be further ahead.

Do you mean 50K/year? If not, I wouldn't mind having 500 k/ year! I drive a car made by a Japanese company, but manufactured in Canada. Designed by a domestic and Japanese company. So....I think my car is a mutt!

Small blocks sound cool to, but I love the deep rumble you can't get from a small block. Even 400 small blocks don't sound as good as a 426.

5PointOHNO 08-24-2005 03:43 PM

I have both....

But I\'ll give you one guess as to which one I prefer.

I mean 500 k . Because under 100 K any car u'd get from europe or japan , guaranteed you'd get a higher end car for a similar price from the domestic market . We're doomed by geography like that ...

Mak-B 08-30-2005 04:36 AM

Domestic cuz it was cheap and its been reliable..300K on a 95 Sunfire!

Haha yeah right Mitsu couldent design a reliable lawn mower engine. They are the toilet of the import and prolly wouldent have made it here if it wasent for chrysler funding everything. That has since changed.I prefer domestic for several reasons.I like the looks of american cars.I support my homeland and dont help line some fat cats pockets overseas.I find the motors to be just as good if not better then imports with proper maintence. With americans bigger is better I can relate because im not packing a small asian .

Americans needed someone to teach them how to make more than 20 hp per litre . reliable or not :)

Looks ... disputable , chrysler has been comming out with some nice , ever since the first word in the company is a german name .

so u're american ? or canadian who thinks we're an extra state ?
It also depends if your well spent money will go into killing arabs or developing the technology of the future .

With americans we have quantity over quality , from the engine displacement to the genetically modified huge and nice tomatoes with no taste and other food products that we have to thank for the typical north american whales .

As for the dick comment ... FUNNY i gotta hand it to you :P ... but once again , quality over quantity and I happen to know that the asian culture is WAAAAAAY ahead sexually than us westerners . Some of us barely started to catch a glympse of their knowledge , meanwhile others will keep on enjoying their wive's fake orgasms while thrusting fast and banging her head onto the head rest for a full 3 minutes , never realising that they'd get more pleasure for a well trained 80 year old asian man with a small who'd them for 10 hours and then stop only when they need to rest

Nastyzed 08-30-2005 09:46 PM

I myself prefer HP per cubic inch HP per litre makes for no torque. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.If you want to talk about HP per litre lets look at the quad 4 180hp out of a 2L back in the 80s or even more so the chrysler 2.2 440hp 4cyl going back to 1986!

I would have to say under german rule chrysler cars have gotten uglier.Go back pre 1974 to the muslce days.

Canada is america we are one. Some argue GM could be considered canadian because of the oshawa brothers story.I support north america and I do my part in makeing sure I support the workers in this country. Tho I am aware there are import plants here.
Asian culture is not ahead of us sexually.Sexual satisfaction over there is 9%.why do you think asian women love white boys? simple put they think were groids.

Zapa 08-30-2005 09:58 PM

if u like old muscle cars , then ya , asian imports are not for you . speed wise american cars only do it inline though .
sure some nice cars have been out lately , the new stang kicks ass , i almost bought one , but when I saw the cheap plastic interior typical of domestic cheapness i figured i should wait some more untill I have money for a real car that would spoil me .

I'm not sure about the perentage u're talking about . But you could be more than right . However don't forget that china for example has 1.2 billion people . And on top of that , lately they've been getting more western than they should be , hence lots of idiots probably appeared , and most certainly they don't teach their young to like they used to . Their traditions are getting lost unfortunatelly but TRUST ME , for thousands of years now , they have known A LOT MORE about sex than we do now . The americans discovered the functions of the pubococcygeus muscle like 20 years ago , meanwhile taoists talk about it from the times when america was a land full of cows and wild boars ( not far away from today metaphorically speaking ) . And on top of that , to capitalize on stupidity look how much bullshit Kinsey got for revealing more trouth that we could handle .

Zapa 08-30-2005 10:03 PM

anywais , pls don't take my comments personally ...

just the way I see things having lived here only half my life and from sticking my nose into chinese philosophy books when I should have been watching the Dukes of Hazzard

Nastyzed 08-30-2005 10:33 PM

No swet bro ;).Anyhow what gets me is how asians do not allow us to plant our dealerships over there. You know why? because asians love our culture. It is not uncommon to see guys rideing harleys in japan. There leaders know this and they know damn well if we had our dealerships there they would be buying up our lincolns and caddies, etc like mad.

Zapa 08-30-2005 10:43 PM

it's allwais like that , we tend to want things we can't get as easily .

my friend was driving a Z3 in romania , and when i told him I drive a sunfire he goes : "no , that's an amazing car"

this other guy i know bought a vette here , took in there , sold it , got a 600 class Mercedes for the money :D

DashHavoc 08-30-2005 11:06 PM

well i own both and import and a domestic...

Domestics it is.

Zapa 08-31-2005 10:17 AM

myself I want to hear from the owner of a Ferrari and a Viper which is best ...

want to bet in that case , when one has enough money to respect himself ( not buy a GT stang and a suzuki swift to be able to afford driving daily to work ) , the viper is a beater ? :P

or a 750 or an M5 next to a Cadillac . lol

the only reason ppl won't like euro cars , is cuz they can't afford them
it's a subconscious bias ... just like the s who date ugly fat chicks with braces and pimples on their ass but say that Paris Hilton is ugly .

NOTORIOUS VR 08-31-2005 10:50 AM

Yup!

That and they think they can get the same Euro package in a less expensive Domestic skin.. but it's not true... you can't.. there is a reason why people with money go for imports... and not domestics...

There's that feel and presence when you're in a Euro Import...

I mean seriously... What do the Domestic people have that can compare to the likes of a MB S600 or BMW 760Li or even Audi A8L? Not a whole lot thats for sure...

funny you should mention those cars after Nastyzed was talking about how american dealerships are hard come come by in Japan ...

Because we'll never see those cars on the road over here , only because they'd make the Cadillacs look like a Civic .

brianb 09-01-2005 02:54 AM

Personally I like domestics , there are a few imports I like but those are the ones I probably would never be able to afford. I think imports for the most part are very well designed . The domestics are slowly catching up to the other manufacturers. Lucky for me all the domestic cars I have owned have lasted a long time and were relatively trouble free. If I could choose I would love a CTS-V, GTO or a Corvette C-6. I think those are awesome cars.

Nastyzed 09-01-2005 07:21 PM

I know I find the cadillac and even the lincoln line up alote better looking and faster since 94'.The northstar is a great engine and GM does a damn good job with the looks of the caddy.Personally I think BMW needs to hire some new people in the styleing department. On top of which there are plenty of "loaded" people who drive nice domestics.A cadillac CTS-V will mop the floor with alote of other euro luxury cars.

Zapa 09-03-2005 10:48 AM

have u ever been in an euro luxury car ?

I mean ... M5 and up

as for the style comment ... what can you do . you think if you take a man that lived in the wilderness hunting animals and wiping his ass with leaves , and put him in a 6 star hotel , he'll like it at first ?

what u figure is the closest u ever stood to a BMW 760 coupe ? 3-4000 km ?

Styling/Looks are subjective... I personally like everything in the new BMW lineup except for the X3...

You know one thing that BMW has always been good at is making cars that don't age quickly.... I mean, their cars have VERY long manufacturing runs... and you can easily rock say a early 90's 3 series, and it won't look all too dated by todays cars standards...

I think everyone today except for BMW and Nissa/Infinity are making some boring ass cars... especially from the domestic side... they all look the same. Audi/VW went with a new looks as well... I don't like it all too much on the VW's, but I think the look does well on the Audi's... Mercedes except for the CLS has nothing too special out there...

Toyota/Lexus? Forget it... they SCREAM boring...

Chrysler... well they're trying at least.. but I don't think they've ever heard of drag CO...

Ford... it's all ugly... the new stang is sorta coolish I guess but meh...

Chev... the C6 is funky... still not a fan of them using Ferrari headlights, but it's a very good car and I'll respect it for what it is... but the rest of Chevy's line up? :smilie_da

So as you can see styling is VERY subjective... But I on;y see a few companies trying something new... everyone else just stays in their old loop.
