HIV positive man may have had sex with 45 women

WINNIPEG -- Police believe an HIV-positive man may have had unprotected sex with as many as 45 girls and women over the last two years.

Clato Mabior, a 28-year-old Sudanese refugee, was charged in March with aggravated sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl.

Staff Sgt. Brant Bishop of the Winnipeg Police Service said Friday that several people ranging in age from 12 to 24 have come forward since then with allegations against Mabior. Most are girls under 18 who come from underprivileged backgrounds, said Bishop.

Last month, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority issued a health order again Mabior which instructed him not to have unprotected sex, not to frequent prostitutes, and to disclose his HIV-positive status to potential partners.

Police in Brandon, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and London have also been notified about Mabior, since he lived in each city after immigrating to Canada six years ago.

Mabior has said he didn't keep his HIV-positive status secret, and maintains he did nothing wrong.
