BUT... that really doesn't mean that DSG is , or that it's weak. It's just that no one has been able to push it yet.

Think of it as your skyline way back when it was new, and no one was able to modify the motor to such an extent to really stress the tranny. That's sorta where they are now with DSG. It will eventually happen though I'm sure of it.
Yeah I was just directing DSG jab at Mr Stage XXIV 4000hp. I mean the car has lots of new guts and we'll see if it can go fast...he was pointing out Skyline was old...I'm pointing out that its proven and would run him by any measure except for of course the dreaded "Hotel Valet Approval" test.

EDIT: If anyone can do it Marcel at HPA in BC will make it happen.

Of course the GTI's DSG can't take as much, but come on, it's in a GTI.

But just for reference.

The Audi S4 (2.7T) tranny can take about 600HP.

The Audi TT (1st gen) was tested by Audi AG to take around 800HP.

The 6 speed manuals in the VW's hold over 500HP easy.

My stock Type-r Tranny can handle up to 500-600whp if not more.

I can't believe the idiocy in this tread. GTI > *everything, isn't it obvious. You should just enjoy your car rather than making these useless threads.

If you want to increase your e-***** even more, sell the VW, get a 90/91TSi for less than the price of your mods alone and it'll run circles around your current whip.

I'm ashamed at owning something even remotely close to the OP...

Not all Audi/VW owners are like that...

To clear up some misconceptions, a stock DSG can safely take up to about 400HP without any upgrades. This has been thoroughly tested on the 3.2 VR6 TT from HPA. Anything over the FT400, they require a DSG upgrade.

I had a 2.0T (APR stage1), now an A3 3.2Q (same drivetrain as the R32 MarkV) and a G35. Stock for stock, the 2.0T is no where close to the G. With a chip, it is quite fast. But unless you put on some slicks, it's a spin machine. You will have to foot it to get a good launch. I have no idea where you got the 450 WHP information from APR from... why would you put 450 WHP to a FWD car? Makes absolutely no sense to me... I don't care if you put a W16 in the GTi, a FWD is still a FWD, you can't put that power on the ground.

No idea how you could be bragging about the GTi's brakes. If anything, that is one of the worst feature of the GTi. Bring it to a real track (not a drag race), you will find it is prone to fading and it's nothing compared to the G35 04 brembos on mine. Changed the pads to Carbotech on my 3.2Q, hope it will be better this year on the track. But stock brake sucked...

I have no idea why you are bragging about the GTi's interior as well. I'm sorry, but Audi's and Infiniti's interior is quite a bit better. Yes they are more expensive, but you pay for what you get. IMO, the plastic on the GTi looks cheap.

I like the Golf GTi MarkV. Please stop turning everyone off from this car by making post like this...

Meh, it's no difference here nor there... There are enough stupid people driving all kinds of makes/models of cars.

You sir are VERY wrong. You can put the power to the ground in a FWD car. It's all about a good tire/suspension setup along with a good LSD.

True, but I don't like putting drag tires on my daily driver. And from what the OP have stated, I don't think that's the route he's going. With all the "fine interior" and comfort of a Gti, I don't think he will make that sacrafice. Not to mention the LSD is another grand + for the 2.0T.

I agree... but even a RWD car with lots of power on a normal street radial tire will fry... so that's a mute point unless you've got AWD.

and yea an LSD is about $1k, plus then you gotta have someone rip apart the tranny to put it in, so that's another nice chunk of change u gotta spend.

"Moot point," not "mute point" « “Language Rules!”

Well, you're right coming up to a light in a fwd monster and racing wouldn't be the best idea. A good radial must be warmed up before racing or traction will be a big issue. But once warmed up the car will hook up and be a dangerous street car. Same goes for rwd too.

Ok so what I dont have torque. Big deal my car is still fast and to me thats all that matters.

We're not talking aftermarket here... I'm talking about stock shafts

A good radial tire is warm enough from normal street driving... you shouldn't be doing burnouts on radial tires.

Lifetime Warranty on race shafts for $400?!?!? Show me please.
A pair from crappy tire for my car are like $320 plus tax, yeah they have a lifetime waranty, but are hardly performance shafts.

That's the stupidest way of looking at this... That's like saying the STI is better the the Porsche, or that because you can make a civic faster for cheap it's better then an STI, which is better then a Porsche, etc, etc, etc.

Just because something ends up costing you less money doesn't mean it's better.
