Toronto is no worse than Paris. I was there a few years ago, and will not go back. The Seine is a toilet, and the girl that was with me on the "romantic" river boat ride was almost sick. I think that pretty much every major city has its bad areas, no matter where you go. Detroit on the other hand.... BTW dude where are you from in Europe? You said you spoke like 6 languages. I thought I was doing well with 3. My son is definetely goin into french immersion, and I already started him off with some French.

Chubby then sorry for beeing jumpy but thtis is a sensitive issue for me , as you can see , I take these things very hard ...

rabbitman , i'm romanian , and that helps me a lot with languages . Our ancestors are the same as the germans ancestors (tracians in english ?), then they got colonized by romans , which formed a latin country later to be in the middle of the Russian iron curtain so my native language resembles most slavic languages and latin languages with it's initial roots in germanic languages .

if you know 3 languages it's a matter of 1 - 2 years before you can double that though , if you really want to , i myself have weeks when 20 hours per day at least i feed foreign speech through my ears .

Paris is a big city , and on top of that it's got a lot of tourism which makes it dirty by default . Still better than London though . I'd prefer more quiet places like Rotterdam or Frankfurt .

But not to forget why Paris is better than other places ... closer

Nice pic. Of Paris france. The only problem is generally they don't even wear shirts. I've never been to Germany, but as soon as we can afford it, we are going. I need to go to Stuttgart.

BTW if you expose your son consistently to more than one language , i'm guessing he can't be older than 10 if u're 29 , he will learn those languages so fast you wouldn't understand how it's possible , their brains are wired completly different at these ages . I remember when I was 6 ... i must have learned bulgarian from TV in less than 1 year , and I was dubbing soap operas live to my grand mother .

rabbitman then your kid is lucky to have such aware parents

z28 ... you know that crosses my mind ... on top of that let me tell you the country roads i took , one of them was 70 kmph very smooth , very good road . and at one point , closer to the highway I started seeing BIG signs : please SLOW down , construction zone , go SLOWER , 40 kmph ... etc ... it was full of pilons on the side and such signs , but the road was great , looked like it was never drilled into or needed fixing .

Then as I got on the highway , 3 times more on my way to Toronto I saw signs on the highway that the left lane is blocked that the right lane is blocked , and every time the lane was blocked by truks with signs telling you to change lanes , yet nothing else was happening , they were just standing there screwing up traffic ...

i didn't wanna mention this at first , because yesterday for sure I would have added some extra comments with it ... BUT WTF ?

Alright i have to say somthing.

I agree what the cops did is dumb and just plain unjustafiable, and yes being a citizen of canda you have Your right to say so..... But I as a proud Canadian i take offence to comments such as

"but I figured not even canadians "

"if i'd just bend over and take it like a regular canadian"

You or your parents or someone for some reason came to this country, you arrived as a guest and became a member of this country, and yes you see things in a diffrent light then i do, maybe because i was born here, lived in the states and came back, and could never be happier, you on the other hand were born in romania, and came here, bringing a diffrent culture and style of life with you,. Maybe its because i feel better in the morning waking up not having to worry that my dads office building or my little brothers bus will blow up (not saying thats what your country is like but the world as a whole at this time ). I agree Many things are wrong with this country, but many things are right.

All i ask is that you are "A canadian" and you have your right to speak up, and i support and comend you for it, it takes *****, But please I ask you as a proud Canadian, please, Stop stop making such flat out remarks about how dumb MY country is and how dumb The people living in MY country are all idiots and push overs.

This is my country and if you ignore the bull It cant be beat, In Toronto you drive an hour and you are in a beautiful country side or forest, its one of the few countrys where most of the cities you dont have to drive threw MAJOR gettos to get to the downtown core. We have higher taxes, We also have free health care, and babysitting and education.

I end this now since I dont have much left to say besides.

This is my land, Stand up for yourself and Your rights GIVEN to you by this country, Absolutly, if you had said this post without the degrading comments, i would have never batted an Eye. But show some respect, this country took you in and gave you a new home.

This post was not ment to flame, degrade, belittle or hurt anyone, it is just ment to ask for some respect to the people who love this country and wouldnt want to be anywere else.

and if you still cant show at least some respect, get out. Somewhere else is nice this time of year.

newbieracer sorry to sound rude , but anyone who loves this country must have never been anywhere else .

I personally came here with my mother as a young kid with no say in it . My mother loves it here because she doesn't need to think anymore she just goes to work , payes rent insurance taxes , and watches TV before going to bed at night .

I am different , and I take other things differently . Allthough I'd love to make a difference in this country , I think the only difference I could make is fleeing back to europe in the near future , beeing one of the first few milion canadians that will do so in the next century . I tried many times , in school , at work , even on this board , but people are of two kinds here . People that say it sucks , and people that don't care just as long as MC Donalds is open .

also again , you were nice in your post , and i'm sorry that my answer sounds so rude , nothing against you at all , but last time i got out of Toronto , I drove for 100 km and it smelt constantly like human , on top of that the beautifull country side only offers us flat boring land and blonde whales . Ever been to France or Swiss ? you might get a sense of beautifull countryside vs nomans land there :S

Im not going to get into a pissing match because A) i dont want to and B) you have your right to your thoughts. But know this, I am not someone who has never been out of the country, Or only lived in this county, I have been to many places, Rich poor, nice people *** holes, I have been to 4 other countrys, and lived in one other country.
So I am not just saying canada is the best and i have no other base.

I think i love this country so much because I lived in the states for a few years and compaired to living there Canada is amazing.

As i said before you have your oppinion and i have mine, i respect that, and in return that you dont lump all canadians together with people who want to leave and people who care when mcdicks is open, because im neather, This country has major flaws and in my mind some major things are right with it.

I choose to get worked up about some things, I have voted in every election (not important but my only chance to really have a say)

Eather way im not pissed off at you i just wish you would show some small amount of respect.

Im done.

no i don't want a pissing contest either , we are both entitled to our opinions , just for the record , the us is indeed one country that could make you think that canada's god's gift to the normal man .

as for respect , trust me i'm showing ... if i would have been disrespectfull and unleashed my repertoire on the matter this thread would be closed and deleted within 10 minutes

also i'm sorry if it looks like i'm generalising , it's the last thing i'd want to do , but unfortunatelly this is how the big picture looks to some , especially those who viewed a gallery .

Hey did you not once say that you are from Romania??????

If you are indeed from Romanian, then I find it utterly laughable that you of all would have the audacity to make such a ridiculous statement considering that fact that Romania is the filthiest, most impoverished, corrupt crap hole in all of continental Europe.

Did the possibility dawn upon you that not everyone is as ignorant as you are??

Probably not…

Yes you are indeed blind, and not because you have a problem with your eyes, but rather because you have your head up your ***.

Are you really insinuating that insurance rates in Western Europe are actually lower than they are here; and I say Western and not Eastern Europe because in those ghetto states no one has insurance and in the rare instance where they do require it, no one actually bothers because all public officials are for sale.

Not only does one in Europe have to deal with obscene insurance rates(usually twice as high as ours) but, displacement tax, new vehicle taxes as high at 50% (Netherlands, Scandinavian states…) ridiculous yearly registration fees and inspections (Germany). Basically the socialist welfare states in Europe don’t make owning a vehicle a very financially sound endeavor and our costs are nothing by comparison.

Also you have got to be joking about the ridiculous comment about corporate monopolies being tolerated here unlike in Europe, just absurd. You’re simply talking out of your *** here. Europe is the epitome of corporate and economic protectionism, need anyone mention Airbus, GE/Honeywell merger, or how about recent EU ruling against Microsoft something that the EU shouldn’t be even sticking their nose into…. Don’t even get me started on this rant…. But their idiotic and backward economic policies lead straight back to their 10% unemployment and zero economic growth.
