Arrow Ont. Steps Up Street Racing Penalties By Targeting Drivers Using Nitrous Oxide

The proposed penalties for street racers continue to pile up in Ontario - the latest target being drivers who use nitrous oxide to give their rides extra juice. The substance is popular with racers because it increases horsepower and basically turns their suped-up vehicles into rockets on wheels.

Nitrous oxide is still legal to buy, but the new rules would prohibit drivers from hiding the tanks. They'd have to be visible either on the back seat or in the trunk, essentially making them illegal. Those ignoring the rule could potentially face fines of up to $2000 and jail time. Provincial Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield said the changes basically ban use of the substance for street racers. It would still be available for use by recreational racers who drive on private property.

Police say the substance can pose a danger if a collision occurs because it's highly explosive. Changes to the Street Racing Act are expected to become law later in May. They also include bigger fines for racers and provisions that would allow authorities to seize their cars. Since 1999, 35 people have been killed in street racing incidents in the GTA, among them Rob and Lisa Manchester. The Manchesters died after being struck by a suspected street racer allegedly going 140 km/h on Yonge Street. The crash left their young daughter an orphan.

exactly  though on the pacer website I thought it said nitrous oxide was allowed, you just had to put a sticker that said the vehicle is Nitrous equipped, and make sure its installed safely.

..77. street rep is low. keep going
I,m changing my set up and my car is off the road while its getting suspension mods and sub frame connectors and some other structure beefed up . The bottle is in my fake speaker box . The lines run thru the frame rails , up under dash , solenoids are in a sealed vented box welded to firewall that looks like part of the heater assembly. Lines go out thru fire wall , thru back of block , to fittings on under side of intake , sprayer bars are in intake under carb , all safety wired in . Mto **** checked car twice so far on the road to TMP , didnt find or didnt say anything about it . I never asked if they did notice it , most people dont ..77.

Police are friggin gay. A civic with a stock 127 HP motor(if its Vtec), with a 50shot of NOS is considered a rocket ship. LOL

What would u call a 500 HP stock Corvette. Am guessing there gonna ban those too.

They can try all they want to stop street racing, but in the end ur just gonna race your winter beater, or ur mom's minivan. LOL

What can you do...Ontario laws is gay like that

thing is the people who know dont get busted, they dont go to the same spots over and over again, the people who have a brain will travel more than 3 minutes to go for some runs. its the kids going to snow rd and wb/14 like they have been for the last 7 years that get busted. this isnt the issue here its the nitrous oxide. i can definatly see why its illegal to have, i mean your feeding a chemical into your motor that bumps up hp in a big way, the instant power it gives you could be dangerous not only becaues of a chance of traction loss but also because if your car cant handle it it can send engine parts for a ride through your hood. at the same thing a nitrous bottle is usually never over 10 pounds and its almost always securley mounted, a propane bottle is over 10 pounds and bounces around randomly in your trunk or pickup truck bed as you go home from walmart, whats safer, the nitrous will will only feed a fire but not start one or the propane that flammable as ?

lol, put a match infront of an open nitrous bottle and itll blow it out, do so withte propane bottle and youve got fireworks, lol. the biggest advantage t to nitrous oxide is the cooling factor. that and the compressed air that expands in your cylinders of course, but yeah, ntirous isnt for amateurs, ive seen the way you drive kid, youve got a heavy foot youll blow yourself up

Nitrous is highly explosive my ***!!!

Nitrous Oxide is an oxidizer, I think the Transport minister should stop watching fictional programming like The fast and Furious.

they will likey make doing wheelies in a charger illegal next...

you see lots of cars on racing tires dragging the bumper on an un prepped ashphalt surface.

I'm glad my car has a factory turbo, after they read this thread Turbos will be illegal....

This is what I have been wondering forever... Exactly how the hell are you going to transport the nitrous bottle to the track if its illegal to have???

X_LUDWIK_X will become famous soon enough
They should have a MTO rep that can deem your Nitrous setup as Legal or Illegal, and give you a sticker/papers. That's the obvious answer right there. People are scared of what they do not know.

Other note...
They should have ride checks infront of bars...
