I know there are alot of versions out there for photoshop. what should i get i don't need anything fancy just the basics. my computer is kinda r-tarded but can handle simple games and such. runs on windows XP what do you all recommend?

Personally I really like the Elements versions. They're a whole lot cheaper but will do everything you need them to.
You said you're going back to school in a couple weeks. Just wait until you go back and you can buy the educational version for tons cheaper than what you'd pay normally.

the bigger the files, the more your computer will slow down. Ram is your best friend with this program

Paint.Net is free and is very good for beginners
