For those that were in on the thread about roomate hell, things havent gotten better with mine, but I came to a startling revelation. Since only my name is on the lease, when it comes time to renew (Sept. 1st), can I legally tell him to **** off and send him out on his own, while renewing and accepting a new roomate? Seems like I would be able to without trouble - other than paying him his share of the damage deposit....anyone know for sure?

Im pretty sure you can... The other way around it seems works flawless (If your name is on the lease, no chance in hell can you get it), and I know that from experience. You should have all the right in the world to kick him out. I dont even think you have to pay him the deposit... If his name isnt listed anywhere, he just payed you, and you had to pay right? Cuase theres no proof that he gave you the money... And since he did all that **** to you, I would consider keeping it.

My roomates left early, and screweed me over. I did all the cleaning (with help from friends) and everything on my own. I kept the security deposit and told him we didnt get it back. If they screw you over, then 2 can play that game, right?

ok so I just checked my mailbox and when my landlord was here yesterday he dropped a envelope saying my roomates name and 'lease enclosed'....so it looks like my roomate went behind my back to get his name on it as well....I snatched it from the mailbox, because I want to call my landlord and tell him that I did not authorize it...can I do that?

do it talk to your land lord ASAP before anythings finalized and be honest with him and tell him yoou prob wont renew if he is their....

You should have to sign somthing all at the same time... I know I was about to get off my lease and I couldnt do it unless everyone else I lived with signed it as well at the same time... So, no that doesnt seem right. Look into it.

yea I was really worried for a minute there that he was trying to get out of the lease and go live with his girlfriend (hes been staying there everyday over break)....I really cant afford to pay 850 a month while in school....I talked to my landlord today and he said my roomate asked for it for the insurance, which could be true, but considering the circumstances as of late, I'd say he told my landlord that and is doing something different

well...that blew up in my face....I wanted to keep him around until the lease was up but he was getting the lease info so he could make sure that he could legally move out now without consequence and was going to sign on a new place today. Unfortunatly I cannot afford 850 a month and go to school (and I cant move back in with my rents)....so I had to swallow my pride and basically give up everything I was standing for in this whole ordeal....it hurts, but it's over...

what it was all about was the fact that he never helped with cleaning around our house, and he was the one making the messes. Furthermore, he had broken my TV and failed to tell me about it....I paid 60 dollars to have one of my moms co-workers fix it. so when it came down to it, I shorted him 80 dollars on rent last month (he writes the check because Im out of checks), I figured that the extra 20 justified the well over 8 hours of cleaning I had done by myself...even at minimum wage I should have gotten more.

This didnt sit well with him and instead of being mature and sitting down with me to talk it over, he would approach me right when he was on his way out the door and would say something like "Yea so Im going to need that money soon so go and get it and give it to me", and then walk out without me so much as getting a word in. So since I couldnt ever get him to pull his head out and talk to me about all of this, I left him a note on his desk telling him exactly why I wouldnt be paying him the 80 dollars, and if he has any questions to come and actually talk it over with me, because I wasnt going to take his little childish **** anymore.

So on Thursday he comes into my room and we start to talk about it. Unfortunatly he did not come to reason over it, and rather just wanted to talk about how if I didnt pay him, it meant the end of our friendship and all this other ****. My only response to him was, how can you sit there and demand money from me when you broke my TV four weeks ago, and never said a word? He just played the "it wasnt me defense", though I never watch tv in our living room, and he always did. His last words were "So you're not going to pay me" and I said no.

Well he got up and left with his girlfriend, and I was so pissed I called up one of my buddies to grab a bite to eat - I needed some air. On the way to get our food, I stopped off at the cash machine and pulled out 40 dollars. My plan was to 'meet him halfway' and show him that I would bend, but not break because we both think we were right and the other wrong. I hoped that this would be a means of a peace offering, but then I got a call from my landlord.

Turns out he wanted the copy of the lease to make sure his name wasnt on it, and that he could legally withdraw from the lease at any time....he had just moved out.

At this point I was ****** and fell in his trap. He knew that I could not afford the place on my own and couldnt find a roomate in the middle of the year - I would have to move in with my parents up in Blaine until I found a place (he had been searching for the past week and a half so he was set). I called him up and he was already at his new place signing the lease, and it was at that moment that I took the biggest swallow of my pride ever.

I knew I had to coax him into staying so I basically had to admit fault to everything.....yes, nothing he did was wrong and it was all on me. Not only that but I had to pay him the 80 dollars.

It's really ****** up guys, I got swindled into letting him win out of all of this, my pride is bruised, and Im still in the hole for my broken TV, which Ill never see the money for. Me and this kid have been like brothers since the 3rd grade, and it was like he shot me in the back that day.

So he ended up not signing on the lease and he's back here...we're working out things still, and the hostility is pretty low now - though I really dont think Ill ever let this go, I still am going to try and deal with it until august, and then he will move out whether he likes it or not.


whew....long, and ****** but that's what happened

yeah dude... I feel your pain. Im still not talking to my friend since kindergarten after I moved out last September. I dont think Ill get over it for awhile.
