Exclamation They out and they ready to book us for anything under the sun so be careful

Police forces join to combat street racing
toronto.ctv.ca

York Regional Police launched an attack on street racing and the potential damage and injuries the practice causes.

Dubbed Project ERASE (Eliminate Racing Activity on Streets Everywhere), York officers are joining with other police forces throughout Ontario to combat the practice of drag racing on public roadways.

The Project ERASE website says street racing reached a peak of "epidemic proportions" in the 1990s. Drivers with cars modified to enhance performance raced through traffic at night, often becoming involved in terrible crashes that sometimes led to deaths.

Nancy Penny lives with the tragic outcome of a street race. Her daughter Andrea was killed by a street racer on May 30, 2000.

"Now Andrea is lost to us forever," Penny said. She added that while the driver served a nine month sentence, Andrea's friends and family are serving a longer sentence.

In fact, two people die and 10 others are seriously injured on Ontario roadways every day due to vehicle accidents. Many of them can be attributed to street racing.

Seventeen police forces and the Ministry of Transportation launched Project ERASE on Thursday.

Police say the practice will not be tolerated.

"Street racers beware," York Chief of Police Armand La Barge said.

"We're going to use every legal tool at our disposal to put street racers out of business, to seize their vehicles and with the proper court processes in place to have those vehicles taken out of commission."

One of the tools York police will use is a specially equipped helicopter. Complete with high-powered lights and heat sensing cameras, the helicopter will be used to catch street races and send police officers to the scene.

Police agencies including the Ontario Provincial Police plus Guelph, Durham, Barrie, Halton, Toronto and others will be participating in the program.

The Project ERASE website also has information for car enthusiasts who modify their cars on changes that are legal and others which are not.

With a report from CTV's Galit Solomon

They will be out in full tilt to break all ***** and ticket every1 for everything so i would suggest to our community that we take it easy for a while because im willing to bet they won't be leting any1 off with any type of warning.

yeah vehicla accidents, people talking on cell phones, people not looking to change lanes, people driving too fast, as we all know the speed limit in tha gta is 150 kph on the 401 and 403. drinking and driving and jsut not paying attention or driving tired and falling asleep. but hey its easier to say some 40 year old woman in a minivan crashed at 3 a.m because she was racing and not coming off a 15 hour shift at work and fell asleep

fuken douchebags

any wanting to look into what is legal and what is illegal for thier car, check this site out. Project ERASE - Guidelines: Side View

QUOTE - A car can’t have more than four lights pointing forward, projecting a beam with an intensity over 300 candela.

That is bullshit because lexus, bmw, new acuras, etc have HID's so they cant give them a ticket because it comes stock.

Ya they are out and they are ready to be dick heads!!

I got caught in a speed trap coming into Hamilton from Burlington and he was nice enough to drop the speeding down a little so it was only a 15km/hr over fine, and no points. HOWEVER he then proceeded to give me a $115 fine because the photocopy of the ownership in the car (it was my parents car) was a little old and a little hard to read everything perfectly.

I was like.... "but its not even my car" and "if you wait I can call my parents and drive the original here".... but noooo!! I was pissed!!

well me and my buddy jus took out his 300zx over the weekend and we wur going wit the flow of traffic myb 73 , tops 75 in a 70 when we see a car come flying up behind us then we noticed that it was a cop and he tailed us for myb 200 meters. the whole time he was right up our *** basically forcing my friend to speed up, instead we changed lanes and because of this we wur pulled over. We asked what the problem is and apprently the cop was doing 80 and we wur drifting away from him. (ya.... ballz ) neways he didnt even ask for insurance papers, just our licenses, he ran our names came back and said we are targets driving a car like this and we should be slowing down... driving a car such as a 300zx or any import tuner or sport compact car for that matter makes us a target but from the drivers seat of a cop car i think tuners all have huge "Plz Break My ***** " signs on them.

"I want a really loud system, a really loud exhaust system and I want to lay down a patch with this car."

HTA 74(4) Unneccasary Smoke.

I never knew there was such as thing. And they have no problems with big tacky wings with parts that fly off...come on.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, they don't want street racing, and they don't want us to go to the track, so we're just going to get smarter, and avoid them. I know here in KW, we avoid them. A couple buddy's of mine and I went to the local "strip", got a couple races in, and then booked it. Cops were there in less than 5 mins. Empty industrial park, almost midnight. ERASE is a crock of . I got pulled over in my old Rabbit, doing 40 km/h, with my then 3 year old son in the car. Sent me for an hour long MTO inspection, and couldn't even give me a no cat ticket.

unless I fail at using calc.exe. as far as I can tell %00.6 of vehicular deaths in the last 10 years were caused by street racing. At least in Ontario.

Probably less than that number.
Most of the street racing deaths you see on the news are involving only one car.
Last time I checked, you need more than one car to be considered racing.
A simple car accident does not make a good news story but when it involves a car that looks modified, the media is all over it. The general public will believe it too.

ya. exactly. nowadays any car accident is questionable racing. Most recently this past weekend some lady was killed and man critically inured when one car veered into oncoming traffic. At the end of the article in the Toronto star they say Street Racing is not considered the issuee becasue a police station is nearby. Y even discuss street racing when it was probably someone who fell asleep at the wheel or a complete idiot that was focsuing on sumthing other than the road infront of them.
