Just becasue it was cheap (in price) by NO means makes it a cheap/shitty motherboard...
ECS is KNOWN to make great boards for a cheap price.....how can we forget the K7S5A ??? One of the greatest selling and STILL selling motherboards of ALL time...the ECS L7S7A2 is no different, it was to be the "next generation" K7S5A, and the SiS 746 chipset is rock solid... as for raising the FSB clock in turn raising the PCI/AGP clock..thats normal with ALL FSB overclocking.... Just sum chipsets offer PCI/AGP Divider locks....so no matter what ur FSB the pci and agp divider/clock will be at 33Mhz... so u have a Sempron running at 2.08Ghz....thats nothing....whats the stock multiplier ?? nevermind..its 10...if ur at 208fsb and running at 2.08GHz ur multiplier is 10... i know AMD has the multis locked on the semprons but there HAS to be a way aroudn that, sum 1 musta foudn out by now...a Sempron is just a re-labled AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred 'B' (XP with 256K L2 Cache...Pre Barton) -Jay |
Yea I know it's not shitty, it's just cheap and old. I used to have the K7S5A too, and I had it overclocked to 166fsb.
My mobo has the divider lock, but if I keep it at 66/33 I can only go up to 200fsb, 201fsb is unstabile unless I go to 68/34, and over 208fsb I have to set the AGP clock to over 72/36 in order for it to run. It's a common problem when overclocking these motherboards. If I do some modifications to the mobo, get better cooling and better ram, it should run at over 220fsb, but it's not really worth it. |
I can't ever see myself using an ECS MB.
I just wish my Mobile XP2500, even when it ran @ 2.4ghz, would play HD movies without stuttering... but it woudln't. It was running at 200x12, with 1gb of Samsung PC3200 running @ 400 as well... stuttered :( My friends P4 3.06ghz (533mhz FSB, not even the 800) played the same HD streams easily. P4's seem to deal with converting movies better than AMD's from what I've seen as well. |
I used to have problems with movies and some D3D games stuttering, it was driver related.

i liked the ECS K7S5A....was a good CHEAP board...
as for stuttering in HD Movies....it has nothing to do with ur MB or CPU.... P4's do NOT handle streaming better than Athlon's....usually when theres a slow down or stutter, there could be a conflict with an IRQ on ur system, or a bios/driver update for ur hardware may be needed.... ive got my dekstop 2500+ barton @ 11x200 right now (3200+) and theres def. NO issue anywhere.... i got my said 1700+ System to 2,220Mhz now....185FSB x 12 Multiplier @ 2.0VCore....to bad its on a Via KT400 Chipset board.....either way, im impressed......100% Prime95 Stable...im gonna reboot it and ptu her back to 2.1Ghz....cuz at least than its at 1.85VCore..i mena i could care less what VCore its at, but at 2.00 the cpu idles at 45 celcious and im using the retial AMD CPU Cooler on that system...hahah -Jay -Jay |
