what does that mean pound for pound? wheel power gains compared to psi depends mostly on the turbo.
2L 8vs can gain from 8-12whp per pound of boost
16vs even more perhaps up to 20whp per pound if big enough
VR6s have gained from 10 - 20whp per pound of boost and thats mainly because of the turbo size.
so it doesnt have much to do with the motor, VR heads only flow 170CFM for 6cyls while a 16v flows 180CFM for 4.
plus 1.8L turbos are the better and everyone knows it, whats the world record for a stock block and head motor? 440whp? no VR gets that. 11s without touching the internals, not many cars can do that with the original motor in the original car, with no internal mods.

I'd like to see a 60 series t03 vr6 crammed into a rabbit engine bay, and stil be able to drive and autocross the car. My car had to be built to be driven every day. The VR6 just wasn't practical, and was too heavy. The 16v 2l was perfect especially seeing as I am using the factory engine and tranny mount locations. Well except for the stupid ing tranny mount that I break every time I'm at the track.

But the only reason why the 1.8T can make 400 wHP stock (and that's only the old ones, since they had compleatly forged internals, the new ones don't) is because it was built for a turbo. On a VR you you slap in a head spacer and u'r good for over 450+WHP on stock internals. And it's a whole different ball game again if u put soem forged pistons in.

thats just not true, 450-500whp on a stock bottom end? that wont last, and hasnt been done much and if you believe someone that says their motor is stock, is semi reliable and actually do put out those numbers your very gullable. People dont achieve those numbers with completely stock bottom ends.
ive seen built VRs do it, with headwork no less. Any motor can take massive amounts of boost once or twice, but you wont get a daily driver or even a weekend racer car out of a VR pushing those types of numbers (if its stock)
350-400whp max depending on the managment, chip tuned, id say 360-370whp MAX
as for rabbitmans autocrossing thing, what 60trim on what motor im not getting your comment, ive never seen a 60trim t3 on a VR ever.

What I said was lets see a Rabbit with a vr6 with the 60 series t03 that I've got on my 2l 16v, turn and be driveable. the VR6 is just too big and heavy for it to be a good autocross car. There is a 91 golf kicking around with a Northstar V8 in it and all they used for springs were VR6 springs. The Northstar V8 is only 57 lbs heavier than the VR6. And that was with the tranny on it. Auto. I would never want to use a vr6 for competition, and yes I know that there is no replacement for displacement.

This time around (again totally stock motor - but in very good condition) he'll make an easy 360 whp @ 10 psi I'm sure of that. Daily driven. Managment is a custom tuned chip with the stock bosch ecu.
So you're saying the 2L 16V can make 350+ WHP @ 10 psi totally stock? I don't think so man. Not even close. So it goes back to what I said before. Pound for pound the VR is better. And no replacement for displacement.
