I have owned all 3 of these cars and I will tell you, the 1.7L will smoke any 2.0L out there including the 16v boat anchor. Hell, the 84 jetta that I had would do it too even with the 300,000 k's on the motor. They are junk motors. Ever since VW got rid of the k-jetronics injection system and went with the new digital system on the 2L, it lacks anything worth while. I own a piece of 2l now and at the same time, I had the 1.8 l and the 1.8 would smoke it in all areas. I guess what it boils down to is how you drive. And I can tell, you have never had a real VW under your foot.
Yeah I can make a 1.7l diesel go 180km/h. Drop it out of a ing plane. If I don't know anything about VW engines explain to me how I built a 2l 16v that puts out 380 hp and 390 ft lbs of torque. In a Rabbit. So when you want to talk about a VW engine that goes 180km/h, don't talk about 1.7l diesels. However, I fully agree with you that the new electronic system should be shoved up VW's ***. The CIS-E was better than the new system. VW should have stuck with the CIS system. It was one of the best systems ever designed, and the k-jet system was not an inmprovement over it. The new system should never have made it into any car let alone a vw.

HAHAHA!!!! Call him out for a mini tour de france, Lance. P.S. I'm not dissin you. Lance Armstrong is the MAN. The last 4 tours he won after having testicular cancer. you wouldn't even get me back on a bike at that point.

I used to do a lot of mountain biking but my wrists are royally ed now. So my 21 speed Fiori Avventura mountain bike now has Tioga city slicker tires on it, and it's grounded. Where did you like to run? My fav was the expert cross country ski trail at the Pinery. 10 kms, all up and down and lots of fast turns. But I once ed up big time on the 2nd section. Theres a long down hill with a slight bend with a little berm on it. On skis you can get a little air if you try, but I hit it once flat out in 21st gear! Landed fine, but blew out both tires. You should have seen the splits in the tubes! About 1/2 inch long on either side. That was one long walk.
