War on Gas Prices

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worthy of our consideration.

Join the resistance! I hear we are going to hit close to $1.50 a litre by summer and it might possibly go higher! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around earlier! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.79/litre is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.10 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre of gas is CHEAP at $.79 - $.99, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace . . . . not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop
buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:
Starting June 1 of 2007 DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the biggest Company in Canada . Petro Canada ! If they are not selling any gas, they will be very quickly inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. Think about this. Petro Canada has 1500 retail locations and the entire country consumes 68 million gallons a day. Yes per day. And Petro Canada is Canada 's largest gasoline retailer, then doesn't it make sense that the consumer can bring this giant to its knees and force them to lower their prices.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Petro Canada gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point . . . keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) . . . and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) . . . and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million pass it on to ten friends each, then 30 million people!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 30 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people . . . . How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 30 MILLION people could conceivably see this within the next 8 days!!!

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from Petro Canada UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO A REASONABLE PRICE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

Amen to that brother! I'm not a political guy, but I copied and pasted your post and sent it to everyone I know. We really are being slowly conditioned to take it right up the a__ from gas companies. I hope everyone who cares about gas prices does their part

There is a competition law in Canada that governs and regulates many sales areas. If we all boycott Petro Canada, they will most likely go out of business, because the law will prevent them from charging anything below a certain level/percentage, and this will only be bennificial to the other retailers.

This is exactly what happened to the lil independant guys. The bigger companies lowered their prices and the small guys were forced to as well (both for business reasons and legal) untill they were loosing money being in operation.

If Petro Can lowers prices and we still dont buy from them, that means were only buying from the other companies, and why would they lower prices if were still buying it from them at 1.07/L and passing up 1.05/L???? If I owned a Sunocco or something - I wouldn't lower my prices, especially now that I'd have 10%++ ppl comming to me that are not going to Petro Can

It may work if they reduce prices a bit (say 2 cents less than the competition prices in any given area) but this would simply mean that we'd pay 1.05/L instead of 1.07/L, helps a bit to us, but its not no where near what we'd like to see gas prices at. Yes the competition may follow suit and reduce their prices to, but will only go so low. Petro Can would have to raise their prices back up since 5 other companies would have higher prices, making Petro Can break laws and get finned.

It's more of a stock market/stockholder issue than it is gas stations, as they govern what oil costs. Now to me this is a farce cuz only some of the oil is used for gasoline and most goes towards making plastics and other non-fuel products, and I've allways wondered why plastic prices havn't gone up.

I know Im sounding all negative and maybe even assholistic thus far but I've been apart of many of these ideas and other types and the major problem allways ALLWAYS comes down to ppl. They just dont get together to do squat in this province/country and these things fail, plus ppl wait for others to do all the work for them. Most ppl here are just automotons/cattle/mindless/conditioned too much to do anything other than what they do right now.

Want to lower the gas prices, heres my idea [but I know no-one will do it cuz ppl here are chicken *****], anyhoo this is it:-
Everyone park their vehicles on the highway and all roadways and shut them off + no one go to work at all (except nesessary feilds like health, etc..). Basically we all protest untill the government steps in and does something about this price issue. No ones working, no ones buying fuel, economy wont be going anywhere and the gov will do something about it. The gov will regulate prices AND the oil companies will take a huge hit, AND the stockholders loose major $$$$, they sell off thier stock lightning quick so as not to loose their shirts and the price of oil plummets [maybe even to something like $20 a barrel], AND we get an impromptu vacation. We set a date for a 1 or 2 week standoff some time into the future (like say 4 months from now), we the word on whats happening and we all have time to save up some money to compensate for the fact we might not be working for a couple weeks [so save up some extra money for food, rent, mortgage, utilities, etc...]
Thats my idea but I know it wont happen cuz ppl dont have backbones.

Who's with me???

Wrong target i'd say. Petro-Canada is atg the very least a Canadian company, if you boycott you boycott Esso they are massive, foreign, and actually have some of the dirtier gas in the country.

Technically won't work.

When Esso refinery had a fire and train was on strike...no more gas for Esso.

Guess what? Petro and Shell and all the rest raised the prices and rationed out gas. We don't really need public mayhem.

Let's think of another extreme for a while and I hope I don't give gas company more ammunition...What happened if all gas company raise prices to $1.50 or $1.75. I think they can keep at that price alot longer than for your car to run on the remaining 55 litres for any extended amount of time.
