Phillet, try using macromedia dreamweaver for your website building. There are many tutorials online and most web developers are fairly familiar with that program.

As for taking the background out of pictures. I believe most people use Photoshop and work the background out of the image. Not really that hard, just takes time to make it look right.

html format is for the olden days! They just teach you that understand the language and how the coding is presented. New website developing programs such as the one 2tone mentioned do all the html for you in a more user friendly interface for options such as links, import pictures/videos, and general graphical navigation and overall to make a user friendly website with some interesting touches. If you can play around with those programs for a while you can get use to it and make a half decent website.

Its best to know and use HTML cuz WYSIWYG editors add in all sorts of junk code that is not cross platform steady/friendly. Plus you usually need to go back and clean up the code.

I agree with the other guys in terms of using dreamweaver. It is both beneficial for a starter since you can use the visual wizard as well as using the html editor once you get famliar with it.
