Can somebody explain to me how torrents work? I keep hearing people talk about them, but never really asked the difference between a torrent and a regular download.

I've been using the new Limewire torrent download agent and I use torrentspy.com for the torrents... i have never seen speeds below 200kb on limewire torrent... give it a try

For the sake of keeping things simple;

1) download BitComet (or any similar client; Azereus is popular, but I don't use it for video torrents, only music)

2) browse your favourite torrent sites, click and download.

ThePirateBay, IsoHunt, fulldls.com, and of course PureTnA/Empr0nium are among my personal fav's

Utorrent allows you to encrypt so your ISP doesn't see it and block it. I've had no problems with it, and have seen speeds up to 600K on Rogers lite.

this is probably my favorite site to use. you gotta register but its really organised and you can find just about anything on it.

Before I create an account, how does the site work? Do they have their own torrent database, or do the forums just provide links to trackers via other Torrent sites?
