Let's see. The most highly regarded police car of recent history was the 1994-1996 Caprice 9C1. 260 horsepower 5.7 litre LT1 V8, 4L60E Automatic (with special police tuning), upgraded brakes and suspension. It was cheap so all of the forces could afford it.
Sadly, GM killed off the B-body cars losing a massive contract with 60% of the North American police forces. Ford stepped in with their mediocre Crown Vic in an attempt to fill the void. In 1998 the car was restyled and the chassis improved significantly. In 1999 the car received a power boost. In 2003 the car acquired hydroformed front frame rails and rack+pinion steering as well as 12.5" front and rear discs.
Since Ford's monopoly of the market started in 1997, GM has attempted and failed with the vastly more expensive and totally inadequate, underpoweres, and POOR HANDLING Impala. Dodge has attempted with a 300M-powered Intrepid (and also failed).
This will be an attempt to capatalize on the cops' lack of choice. Hopefully the combination of price, reliability, and performance will make it a strong seller. Although, likely the police version will be V6 powered, saving the Hemi for "pursuit" cars.

I'm not trying to make an irrational statement concerning your reply, but just lighten up a little.

i'm very "negative" (realistic) and i already know that cos i get it 24/7. but don't take it personally, because not all of us can be tree hugging hippies (and no, that's not directed towards you...i'm just saying not everyone can be happy as all the time)

With budgets the way they are, I wouldn't bet on the Metro/York Region Police force acquiring any on these Dodge's. Look how long it took the force to decide whether or not to purchase 100 stun-guns, how long would it take to decide whether or not to buy more patrol cars.
In York region they are saving all their money for their precious "3:00 in the a.m" noise-maker/window rattler helicopter, so I don't see York getting any new cars, but yet they've decided to spend the money on not getting more powerful cars but re-designing the exterior paint schemes
of their well-worn underpowered/overweighted Chevy Impalas.
