89 mustang runs hot

I have an 89 lx with a 351, just put aluminum heads on and the gaskets are on right. I have a high flow 160 thermostat, electric fan and stock 5.0L rad and water pump, but the car run hot (200-220 range0 after a short bit of driving. Any suggestions?

I would say look into an aluminum rad and try some water wetter.

Your rad is too small for that motor and t stat....The 160* stat is open all the time forcing the rad to work harder...the 5.0 is undersized for a stock car..LOL
Need to go with an alunimum rad with a proper sized electric fan and a 180* highflow stat will work fine.

I appreciate the suggestions. Big Nick do you have a size and brand of aluminum rad you would suggest. Also how does a hotter thermostat end up cooling the engine better? Any thoughts on a high flow water pump (Edlebrock, Stewart, etc.).

the t stat opens faster, give the coolant in the rad less time to cool.

Thanks for the Suggestions

I want to thank everyone who responded to my question. I will be looking into an aluminum rad t-stat. Any brand of rad that would be recommended?

Nick will steer you in the right direction, whatever he sells you will be perfect as I am quite confident that Nick doesn't sell junk!
