Mustang Mods - Which was the worst ?

it all depends, it is notchy but i like it that way. and to be honest i have yet to power shift it, quick shift no problems but have yet to try the power shift.
@ brandon i prefer carb cause i know them like the back of my hand and you won't be feeling the difference on the street cause the temp/humidity is different on the seat of the pants dyno. i'll set the tune where i want it and if it drops off in the quarter it won't bother me cause thats not what the car is built for.
@ SS i agree 100% about the stock computers, they kick *** for how old they are and their ain't many stock ecu's that can do the same, but comps aren't for me. i drove the car 8 times last summer cause of fuel problems and two computers and two sets of injectors still no solve and when it filled my cylinder with fuel cause the injector didn't close and bent a rod i had enough. and i never felt the car was performing the way it should. so change my plans and running carb.

What carb tweaking "tricks"?
Set your mixture, pick a jet that's right for your application, set your idle and drive it.
I suppose you could change spring tensions to suit your needs....possibly change what throttle position your secondaries open at, but other than that, why would you even bother messing with anything else?

it all depends on what carb your running. holleys you can change the cam profile that operates the accelerator pump, jets, power valves, you can loosen the diafram on vacume secondary holleys but doesn't always work in your favor, opens to soon and flood the motor with unneeded fuel, and q jets{yeah i know other camp,GM} find smaller needles, seats for the needles loosen the spring in the secondarys.......edelbrock works almost the same as a gm q jet barry grants are the same as holleys but if you ask people they say they are better then holleys. or you can just leave it the way you got it.

Well, I was considering Barry Grant because they're on EBay already setup for Blow THrough for a very fair price... but everyone I asked about them said they are nothing but problems on blowthrough, so I'm sticking with a Holley. I'm probably going to over-carb the 302, since I have a 351 that will be going in once I blow up the 302 and I'd like to keep the same carb. I'll probably wind up running a 750-800DP, so I'll definitely need some help setting that up to work with boost. Still got some time before it all goes together, I'm still collecting parts and the carb will probably be last on the list.

bg is a holley basically, barry grant used to work for holley then turned around and made his own very close copy of holley from what i have read that is.. and as for problems.... you have to remember that it is forcing air through something that is used to sucking it. i'll have a look around see what i can find out.

Actually, the BG carb I'm talking about on Ebay is actually supposed to be Boost ready. Comes with sealed shafts, nitrophyl floats and all the good stuff.... just the guys on Turbomustangs recommend sticking with a Holley and they've never guided me the wrong way. CSU sells their blow thru Holley's for $800, whereas the BG unit is on Ebay for $500..... Everyone strongly recommends spending the extra money and buying the CSU carb, either that or try doing it myself.... and since I dont have access to the tools anymore (since I moved) I'm going to have to shell out the dough.

The absolute worst mod would have to be a set of ford motor sport shorty headers I put on my 98 cobra. I got very impatient waiting for soemthing to add power, and when I bought the car they weren't making a ton of aftermarket exhaust, so I got em and never was able to control the leaking, had one guy try to tighten the bolts and rung one off in the left head, had to fix that. After that I relized the flanges were uneven and needed milling, more money. I sold em and just got myself a set of BBK long tubes and ended up changing the whole setup altogether.

I always regretted my 5 bolt conversion until i added these FR500 chrome rims. :icon16:

Absolutely, I took it to an exhaust center and they installed the headers, and at the time I just didn't know about the car enough to look for problems. The flanges were not milled flat and they knew it. Rather than suggest that being done they installed them and got two more trips to their shop for "tightening" the bolts. I even bought APR locking bolts and they even ended up torqued too hard and broke off one of, which in turn cost me a new tap to re-thread the bolt hole. More $'s for them. Hurt but once I be-friended a ford tech who pretty much owns his own dealership, I got it right with the BBK longtubes. Sucks when you get raped for little of nothing that turn into alot.
