Speedo Problem

Hey guys the speedo in my 91LX is messed up it just jumps around when the car is moving and doesn't read right ever lol. Question is, is this like a chevy where it would have a VSS on the tailshaft? or is it a different problem?

Thanks

There is a small plastic speedo gear in the tranny that could be worn out
and only catching some of the time or it could be partially unplugged
from the back of the cluster.

HAd an Explorer that did that....used to fix it by spraying the speedo cable with silicone lubricant.....although, mine didn't jump around, it just kinda stuck at 80.

YOu need a new speedometer cable. The lube wears out over time and the cable actually starts burning into the plastic cover from the inside which causes it to bind and release, which makes the speed jump like a ****. Replace your speedometer cable, its a pretty straightforward job and can be done in an hour or so.
