Additives?

I was wondering how do you feel about additives in general? Since I get a decent discount I was thinking of adding an entire round of additives to my car (oil, tranny, fuel, radiator/cooling, and power steering). Are additives like these actually useful or are they just a ploy used to get your money?

hahaha. i laugh at all you people who use additives to clean carbon off the valves. i will never need that! i got rid of carbon build up the hard way!

Time to get back on topic.

oil additives are bad oils already have them and the anti foaming stuff gets diluted and now the oil is foaming (very bad)

That is what I thought. I know Lucas is very bad about foaming in the engine (yet it sells like crazy). What about the stuff for the tranny and power steering system?

archemedes 03-29-2005 01:46 AM

same idea I would think, I don't use anything but fuel

What about sea foam tranmission additive? I'm just messing with you since you support sea foam so much. :D

NoRiceInside 04-24-2005 03:57 AM

i used the restore engine oil additive thingy and it claims it can restore compression and it actually worked. i had an average of 130 psi and afterward i had an average of 150 psi.

RFF 04-24-2005 04:00 AM

Don't ask me why but for some reason O'Reillys stopped carrying all restore products.

archemedes 04-24-2005 01:24 PM

they are odd, I've used restore in engines and it helped a little, but for teh stuff to do what it's supposed to the cylinder temp needs to be around 2000 degrees (from what an engineer who works with the stuff told me)
