can i make my magnaflow exhaust quieter?

i just bought this lancer ralliart, and the previous owner put up a soupcan magnaflow muffler, it was pretty loud, and im just wondering if there's any products that will make it quieter or do i have to switch it back to stock muffler, i dont want to be bothered by cops every 10 minutes.

Get a resonator welded on.

cao_tuo 08-08-2006 12:37 PM

where can i get that?

X_LUDWIK_X 08-08-2006 06:56 PM

Exhaust shops.... i.e. Midas, LA auto etc.... anything really.

Ask them to weld a resonator on for you in order to tone down the sound.

BrowNKiD 08-08-2006 08:42 PM

get a silencer

79camaro 08-08-2006 09:02 PM

get a resonator wont hurt flow but will definately dumb down the sound

YellowCavy 08-20-2006 01:27 AM

my buddy had a silencer on his tercel, it was pretty quiet and dam loud without it lol.

2TONE_93GT 08-20-2006 01:46 AM

resonator on my turbo stang didnt help much, but i also ran a 2 chamber muffler. considera 3 chamber and resonator.

Resonators (stainless) are about $90

79camaro 08-20-2006 11:57 AM

Well 2tone see you have a real performance oriented vehicle this is a can on a fairly stock car...A silencer chokes flow resonator kills sound vibrator through out the pipe no flow alteration

My old EG b16b stroked had 2 1/4" piping high flow cat and high flow manifold high flow resonator to a 2 chamber muffler no chrome bullshit can with a tip looked kindda like the ITR muffler but anyways sounded like your average raspy ricer b4 the resonator once i put the resonator it purred like OEM at idle and little throttle and as soon as i stomped on it and the vtec changeover it had a sweet tone to it more like a dead steady muscle car sound....Wicked....
Dont silence not the right path id first reccommend if you could scrap the muffler for something like an OE ITR axle back or make your own with like a 2 1/4" piping and use something like a Flowmaster 30 series or something and weld whatever tip you want for your bling effect...you'll be happier in the end and it'll last longer

Vibrant makes some nice resonators...check out there site vibrantperformance.com

...+1 resonator.

Had same problem, headers, 2 1/4 pipe and magnaflow muffler, loud as **** ..add 18` resonator, sounds little bit louder than stock.

fart can mufflers do nothing for you but make noise. look into a decent high flow OEM style muffler and get a nice long resonator.

bump

i need for my lude

wrong. straight through "fart cannon" mufflers have no air restriction, they allow for a better flowing exhaust, which in the end gives you more horsepower, even though its not much at all. On n/a vehicles you wont lose very much, if any power with an oem style muffler.

If there is no cat on it,you would have a louder exuast also...

3nidapooh 11-05-2006 09:55 AM

o i got a question about my car too, if i take off my resonator which is next to my cat will it make my car even louder as i already have a magnaflow muffler but the sound comes out like ....lol

D16a6nos 11-05-2006 06:32 PM

if u do take off the res, its will proabably get a lot louder, i have a aftermarker res with cat with genie muffler, it sound pretty good no bumbo bee sound at all i do know before i install the res. car does sound really loud and is not as deep as is right now

Try the resonator - seeing that the silencers look nasty.

The muffler shop will be able to point you in the right direction.

Wild_Dima 11-30-2006 06:30 PM

i have the same problem...i like how the muffler looks and like the sound but it way too ****ing loud...on the highway it pressurizes my ears....i still wanna be a pilot so i need to keep my hearing...how much will the resonator help...comparison in percentage or db or w/e...anyone?

IntegraMark 12-01-2006 03:47 AM

resonator helps alot but it restricts air flow and you'll lose power maybe not enough to notice. it's up to you. if you need your hearing for a carrer then don't toss it away just for a "cool" sounding exhaust.

oh for sure im doing something about it...ill probably put the resonator on...i dont have my car for speed but for transportation only...im hoping it will reduce the noise alot and leave some quiet deep humming for a better sounding exhaust
