Cutting springs is not as bad as people think, as long as it's a reasonable drop.

chopped spring reply
its not good to chop them, some springs have different spring rates, if its progressive the ride is damaging to the front end.some manufactures make chop-able srings .they have the same spring rate in the coils so you can chop them to fit.

and just to ad the differences between progressive and "chop-able" springs, progressive springs have different gaps between the coils, the gaps get shorter near the end of the coil, so that the first part of the coil is not as firm(with the gaps further apart) and the last bit it firmer(shorter gaps), non-progressive the space between the coils are equal |
Get spring compressors from princess auto. basically two hooks on a threaded rod, compress them to the height you want, go to your kitchen. 450 for 4 hours in the oven, don't cut them.
|
^ Canadian tire gives out coil spring compressors for free :D
Put a deposit, return it in 3 days, get your money back. For the record, the "choppable springs" you are refering to are called linear. |
DON'T CUT!!!!!!!! Just spend the cash and buy a Kit. Don't be cheap. Talk to any REAL Mechanic or one that is actually good. He will tell not to cut the springs.
|
i'd buy the springs, and struts. but if your low on cash, and already driving a hackjob project might as well as long as you don't mind the ride to be bouncey :ohwell:

chop em its bouncy but i get used to it :thumbsup

cutting your springs is up to you. just because they make kits for them doesnt mean you have to buy them. personally i think those kits are gay, those are for race cars, not factory 4 cylinders with an engine swap. i chopped 3 coils off my teg, it rides good, not too bumpy, my stock shocks are still good. if you do it right, and plan it out its fine. my springs have been fine for 2 years.
