well the only good cars on that list worth modding are the 240 and the civic.

Its hard to find a 240 in good cond (rust).

is this a daily driver or summer only car? do you plan on modding it?

Supra_RZ 05-12-2006 11:08 PM

it's going to be a Daily Driver , and i will be modding it

drift_n_shift 05-13-2006 07:40 AM

get the EK or the 240. the civic has good mods, but a decent engine for a swap is like 3G's.the 240 will gain more attention as tokyo drift comes to theatres, so more parts and whatnot i think. if its a daily driver, rear wheel can be a ***** in winter depending on where you live. the supra is nice, but parts are somewhat expensive and due to the "turbo" model, get ready to be merked on insurance.

ur right about the 240 gettin attention when Tokyo Drift comes out, but i want a car that can go fast, and it takes a lot of money to make a civic go into the 10 sec times.

I might just get the Supra Turbo becuase their pretty fast , and if i choose to drop in a 2JZ GTE motor it will be a beast. and will do some good time on the 1/4 mile and maybe the circuit.

And for insurance im going to get my parents to insure it as their car and im gonna go on as the Secondary driver , which will make it cheaper for me. If i was on my own insurance then that would be a diff story.

Foxbody Ford Mustang, cheaper on insurance than a civic, and will work either when given the same $ in mods.

Get a DSM, actually...your first car. Get a civc.

BigCat 05-15-2006 02:25 PM

For your first car, dont get something too fast... I remember when I was looking for my first; I wanted a muscle car but my parents wouldn't let me. And because of it, I'm still alive!

Supra_RZ 05-15-2006 02:29 PM

hmmm, maybe i should go for the EK civic after all. but im getting it in 10 more months , so i have some time to think about it

modding any car gets expensive.
the civic is a good choice. as a first car theres nothing brong with a hatch and a B16 motor. good cheap and reliable.

so your looking to spend 7g's on a car and then 7g's a year on insurance?
- 1996-1999 Civic Hatchback
(cheap to mod, expensive insurance)
- 1990-1992 Toyota Supra Turbo
(cant drive it in the winter, ive seen many who tryed and failed. its to heavy and costly)
- 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse
(insurance, crank walk)
- 1995-1999 Eagle Talon
(insurance, crank walk)
- 1995-1999 Nissan 240sx
(very expensive to even purchase)

Supra_RZ 05-16-2006 01:50 PM

insurance wont be much for me because im getting my dad to insure the car as his car and i will be a secondary driver . So im could be paying 200-300 a month.

Your pretty outragious on insurance prices. I pay $3600 a year and the car is in my name with a G2.

As for crank walk. There are many DSM's out there slightly modded or even heavy moded for $5k. Unless you know for sure its had a 6-bolt jdm swap spend the leftover 2g's on a swap.

Good Luck with your purchase. Although I bought a Talon for the reason of looks...power...awd+turbo and it's seen once for every 50 civics that drive by.

To be honest i would check out the insurance rates first. The three best of that list in my opinion are the honda, nissan, and the eagle.

Honda= cheap, reliable, fairly quick and good candidate for 1/4, auto cross, road racing and much after market support

nissan=good aftermarket support, not the cheapest of imports to mod, not the fastest in the 1/4, excellent for drifting and road racing. Swaps in mind for this car are on the expensive side.

Eagle= good aftermarket support, in the middle when it comes to mod costs, can put down decent 1/4, requires more maitence then other imports, excellent for road racing, autocross awd cars are good, but can lack in tight tight corners due to tire scrubbing.

I would personally take into consideration what drivetrain setup you would like aswell as look and insurance costs. If you can factor in what you like and what your goals are for the car then your decision should be clear. I am not sure about your goals for your car, but that it why i beifly desribed the obvious benefits of them. You can fit those cars to where you see fit in your goals. Don't let others influence your decisions! If you like a honda in the end of the day so be it even though there are many around. People can easily generalize poeple by what car they drive. I personally think thats rediculous! For each your own!

Good luck on the first car:smilie_da
