GF's Grand Am or 3000gt...which one?

OK, listen up... my gf has a pontiac grand am (1998 gt), and was offered a 3000gt(1995 SL) from her dad. But the thing is she would have to give her grand am up to her sister.

The grand am has 100,xxx miles on it. But we replaced the radiator, wheels, brakes, battery, just had a tune-up and a bunch of smaller things.

The 3ooogt has a 170,xxx miles. its 5-speed. Just had a new clutch and master cylnder replaced. Also has new brakes. It was valued a few grand more then the GA.

The thing is im afriad it will turn into a money pit, and she just put all this money into her own car and theres nothing wrong at the moment.

We really dont know what to do. Style wise and fun the 3ooogt would be better but with mileage wise its up there and we dont know how much longer it should last.

What do you guys think?

If we keep up with oil changes and tune-ups when it needs it do you think it will outlast the GA.

I say keep the grand am... 170xxx is a lot, and you dont really know how its been treated, do you? Plus, unless its a VR4 or TT 3000 I wouldnt take it.

MyFirstCamaro 04-04-2007 02:31 PM

it was a sherrifs car/toy before her dad got it......and he dad only had it not even a month....hes moving into the city so he has no use for it

69z-28 04-04-2007 04:05 PM

that means he has not come accross a lot of the problems it prolly has yet and 170k miles on a DSM is a HUGE NO NO!!! id stick with the grandam. id love to have a 98 Grand Am as a daily driver. stick with that.

ITSA6 04-04-2007 04:26 PM

i say stick with the grand am and i am with paar unless it is turboed i would say no to a 3000

MyFirstCamaro 04-04-2007 05:43 PM

damn i thought it would be cool for her to have a 3000.....so far everyone that i have asked said basically the samething

97z2801ss 04-04-2007 06:29 PM

Unmodified DSM's last but once u put one thing on something breaks hahaha...

I think it would be cool to have even if u have to put some money into it

blue89vert 04-04-2007 07:00 PM

MyFirstCamaro 04-04-2007 07:09 PM

Mikerock 04-04-2007 09:58 PM

if you like working on your girlfriends car and giving her your car then get the 3000.

just get her a honda and be done with it.

niceroc 04-04-2007 10:25 PM

all i can say is DONT get the 3000, DO NOT get it, STAY AWAY FROM DSM

blue89vert 04-04-2007 10:34 PM

if its stock it will break once a week too

69z-28 04-04-2007 10:52 PM

ya im gonna say that DSM's stock or not break. if your a car guy and really like DSMs and LOVE working on your car, go for any talon, eclipse, 3000 or stealth, however if u want hassle free nice daily driver, take anything else.

blue89vert 04-04-2007 10:57 PM

nah my sister had an elcipse spyder for like a year and a half and we never had any problems with it at all

NoRiceInside 04-04-2007 11:14 PM

id take a 3000GT over a grand am. grand ams are UGLY.

reliability > looks

in this case. I dont like grand ams either, but if its a DD, I dont give a hell what it looks like, as long as it works. GM wins here.

NoRiceInside 04-05-2007 12:10 AM

read my second line dumbass.

MyFirstCamaro 04-05-2007 01:10 AM

alright the Grand Am wins .... thanks for helping with this 8]

97z2801ss 04-05-2007 01:13 AM

Grandams also have probs too and lots of them.

camaro_chic17 04-05-2007 01:22 AM

Keep the grand am if u want reliability. Don't really think a 170k mile 3000 could be very reliable
