need 4th gen advise

In light of my decision to scrap my 3rdgen (also my only car) I have decided to buy a 4thgen as a daily driver. I would of couse love a 99-02 SS or Z but I dont think I could realisticaly afford one. My budget is extremely limited so my questions for you guys are as follows...

what are the most reliable years?
most reliable motor?
price ranges?
best daily drivable?
things to look out for?

Thanx in advance! P.S. I have no plans to modify this car thats why I am also looking for another 3rdgen I just want a dd.

Everyone says they have no plans to modify, but they always change. Unless you REALLY love 3rd gens more than likely you will soon see how much more is available for the 4th gens and want to modify the 4th gen.

But if you just want a DD, I personally wouldn't recommend getting a 4th gen. Its been my experiance that its too hard to have two vehicles that have a lot of potential and only put money into one. But if you are set on getting a 4th gen, I believe they went to the 3.8 in 95-96. I wouldn't get a base model- at least try to find one with some options. Other than that just look for the same things you look for in every car. But mark my words- if you get a 4th gen also you will want to do a couple things to it and typically once it starts its all over..

The only thing I really ever look for in a car is that it is a camaro lol. I really prefer the 3rd gens and have no insterest in modding a 4thgen cause I dont really care for the look (i like boxy) not that anything is wrong with the look It just dont scream modify to me. I would like to throw an LS1 in a thirdgen though!

96+ V6 Camaros have the 3.8L (Some 1995s do to)

You could find a LT1 for the same price as a newer 3.8L but that depends on how much u can spend...like me I cant afford a V8 insurance and such as to why im keeping the 6.

Well... here is your delema. The 3.8 has been given so many awards as a best all around motor, its really an amazing one. But your going to get less miles to the gallon for a v6 than a v8. I know that sounds odd, but you've got less power pushing more weight, hence worse gas mileage. The 3.8 is probally more reliable, but its not cheaper to fix. With the LS1 / LT1, you have the option of suping it up in the future, or having an all around faster car, but your going to have a higher insurance rate.

If you really want the details, you can send me a msg and I can tell you all the bad and good **** about a 3.8, and im sure all these guys can make a list of the good and bad of a ls1 / lt1 (optispark cough cough)
