No more one wheel peels

As of 6pm tonight, my car is true RWD now :)

Got the 3.42s and posi installed today, took him about 6 hours went back and got it... He was supposed to weld my egr, but said he couldnt hear the leak, which I dont know how. And he said he couldnt hear the other noise my cars been making, so Im prettymuch firguring hes deaf.

Anyway, god I ****** love the gears. Having your car go sideways when flooring it gives me a bone. Car definitly gets up a little quicker also.. Although I need to go get it tuned, so Im hoping that will be this week.

Anyways, I definitly have spring fever now. Ill be breaking in the dual burnouts in when I get my new wheels on. 2 weeks, Ill have some vids for you :D

mxracerbrian 03-10-2007 11:56 PM

Awesome man! glad you were able to get it back so soon. im pumped to ride in her this spring

blue89vert 03-10-2007 11:56 PM

sweet! reminds me of when i put my new rear end in. that was one of the best days of my cars life haha but not for my rear tires

paarman97maro 03-11-2007 01:10 AM

Im curious... The only thing is that when I turn, the back sqeeks a little bit. Wonderin if I should be concerned, or if thats normal with used parts.

NoRiceInside 03-11-2007 01:34 AM

squeaks how? my tires kinda do in turns. its normal for LSD.

paarman97maro 03-11-2007 01:56 AM

No its not my tires, sounds mechanical. It just makes a creaking sound. Its only when I make turns.. I figured it is probably nornal for a used posi with gears that were never in it.

NoRiceInside 03-11-2007 03:18 AM

well it could be the clutches in the diff. there should be 1.5 qts gear oil and then a bottle of limited slip additive.

the noise from used gears would be a whine. all gears will mesh only one way, and that is the way they were first set up. its possible to get em to mesh the same way again, but only in the same rear end with the same carrier. different cases and carriers have different measurements and, althought minute, they still make a difference with gears. its that precise.

2000v6cam 03-11-2007 03:44 AM

just curious how much did it cost u to get it all installed cause i really need to do that too im tired of the whole "one wheel wonder" thing

69z-28 03-11-2007 09:42 AM

thats awesome paar. good to get some nice added "fun" mods in there every once in a while. gears are one of the things i never got a chance for cause when i replaced my rearend it was a killer deal and had stock gears so i said screw it.

is your posi unit a normal auburn/eaton style with the clutchs or its possible it can be a torsen rear end. it depends what kinda car it came out of, but with the torsen rear ends, they have all gears inside with worm gears that much lots of noise.lol. just something to think about.

Mikerock 03-11-2007 03:48 PM

i wanna see some ******* pictures paar. put your wheels on too.

98CamaroZ28 03-11-2007 06:33 PM

tight!, I love going sideways around corners, its fun! Yea having posi is tight, I wish i had 3.42's though.

Mike Jones 03-11-2007 08:45 PM

Very nice Paar, I hope it makes a big difference when I install my 4.10's.

You should, all six speed LS1's came with them stock.

NoRiceInside 03-11-2007 09:13 PM

hey, all six speed LT1s did too.

69z-28 03-11-2007 09:23 PM

except 93 LT1s.

ahahahaha. your so cool chad, driving a camaro with a tumor on the hood.

paarman97maro 03-11-2007 09:40 PM

Lets see... prices:
Gears: $30
Posi: $100
Gear Install Kit: $90
Misc (gear oil): $30
Install: $200
and I need to get a tune yet in a week or so, which will be $50
So, close to $500 total

Yeah, Ill be getting some pics.. It was late last night when I got it, and I worked all day today. I could get some tomorrow of the diff, it does look pretty nice chrome :) Ill be getting the wheels on the 23rd when I go back home. Ill probably install my driveshaft then also. Ill be getting some pics then for sure... Pray for warm weather :)

96camaro 03-11-2007 09:46 PM

Sweet deal, is it really a noticable difference?

yeah he told me today that it was a huge difference! im thinkin tomorrow night after school we be burnin the rubber off his tirez
lol

paarman97maro 03-11-2007 10:15 PM

haha.. yeah its definitly noticible. Right when I drove it, the shifting is a lot better... It used to dump off from like 5k to 1.5 so it would just bog like a ****** from 3rd to 4th, and I hated it. Its at a much better curve now when it drops, not nearly as low. Id say it accelerates like hell, but my speedo is off... I dunno how far off, but it looks like I get 0-60 in like 6 seconds lol. So, its goin up quick, but it is a little off. It does accelerate faster though.

The thing I like most is the posi... I really didnt notice it until I got home to my apt and was going uphil and my whole backend just whipped out. Now when I give it some gas, I can really feel both tires grab, its really noticible. Feels like it actually has a pair of nuts now. haha Its a blast just being able to break out the tires whenever I want... I was heading back to work after my break and I just floored it at about 25ish and by the time it got to 5 grand I lost traction and the backend started sliding out hhaha.. I dunno its just way sweeter, its like a whole new car. defnitily worth what I paid.

btw, the I cant hear the rear end sound anymore... I dunno, maybe it was just still getting set in.

96camaro 03-11-2007 10:24 PM

I may have to look into getting something like that, sounds like fun.

FamousZ 03-11-2007 10:29 PM

Thats badass Justin! Can't wait to see the car this summer..

NoRiceInside 03-11-2007 10:35 PM

damn im actually jealous. i always wanted to do gears and an LSD in carmen, but never did. i finally got the gearing i wanted plus an LSD when i got me a V8, but the extra power makes it hard to tell if gears help accelerating. i never got to experience the benefit of gearing/dif.

paarman97maro 03-11-2007 10:37 PM

yeah it probably sounds pathetic to you v8 guys, but having 1 wheel spin was like running with one leg lol.

Just seems like I gave her more power, but I didnt. Just got more to the ground in essence. I have yet to launch it from a stop though. Possibly tomorrow.

NoRiceInside 03-11-2007 10:45 PM

yeah i understand. it actually helps get the RPM up quicker, thus putting you into a better powerband. thats technically what it does. but the result is your car accelerates quicker.

and i know the one tire fires. i remember in my lil 3.4 i was lucky to have enough power to spin ONE wheel...let alone two. lol.

ITSA6 03-11-2007 11:59 PM

agreed it sucks with the one wheel wonder although this little 3.4 needs a new tire....yes one haha oh well congrats paar

TorqueDog 03-12-2007 02:00 AM

I'm not sure what you're getting tuned, but you will need your speedometer adjusted for the 3.42s, as well as your A4 transmission shift points.

97z2801ss 03-12-2007 03:06 AM

sweeeet paar

TorqueDog 03-12-2007 12:27 PM

And you don't go from 7.4 second 0-60 MPH times to 6 seconds with gears and LSD. :p Remember, your speedometer is out until you get it tuned, your displayed speed will be faster than you are actually traveling until you do so.

2Poor4Z 03-12-2007 03:47 PM

ah this is one of the things i loved about my car.. it is very very nice..

warning!! BE CAREFUL THE FIRST SET OF DONUTS YOU DO!! haha because with the lsd.. when it cuts loose, its gone.. its such a huge difference

thats what i ****** said idiot lol. I said it LOOKS like im going 0-60 in 6 seconds because my speedo is off. You canadians have half your brain frozen sometimes :nana:

I realize that gears arent turning my car into a ferarri buddy :)

and yes, Im getting the speedo and shift points tuned.

paarman97maro 03-12-2007 05:22 PM

Pretty sweet, the guys already gonna tune my car tonite. Sweet deal, cuase Im busy all week, and hes goin outta town... good thing he fit me in.

Yeah, okay there Mr. Floppy. :p Don't lie, you stuck your foot into it, you heard the pissed off chainsaw rev up, and you thought you were in a 550 Maranello.

And a six second 0-60 MPH time for a Ferrari would suck. I'd ask for my money back and buy a Cobalt SS if that was the case. :p

:lolsign: owned

blue89vert 03-12-2007 08:10 PM

hahaha

paarman97maro 03-12-2007 11:26 PM

So.. very weak. I drove there, and the conversation goes somthing like this:

begins hooking up laptop
"So what did you have put in?"
"3.42s"
"And what did you have before?"
"3.08s"
"3.08s? Who put those in for you?"
"Those.. came stock in auto v6s"
"Oh.. this is a v6?"

Turns out he thought it was a v8... he doesnt have the file for v6s. So he said hes gonna try to buy it.. hell let me know when"

That sucks, I was all pumped.. ah. I also asked him about the shift points if they have to be changed, and he doesnt know why they would need to be changed if he changes the gear ratio... so I dunno about that.

mxracerbrian 03-12-2007 11:29 PM

bummer paar! just use your L33T haxor skillz we learned in class tonight on it

paarman97maro 03-12-2007 11:37 PM

lmao.. Ill just code it in hex, **** it. A4 B9 V6 342

TorqueDog 03-12-2007 11:47 PM

You know, I still have my HP Tuners cable....

... for 97 V6 F-Bodies.

Mike Jones 03-12-2007 11:48 PM

Sucks man but I drove my '94 for a long time after the gear swap before I changed the speedo. You just get use to it after awhile.
