you could just put a heavy duty magnet on the oil pan, and if it is still in there, it will stay on the oil pan with the magnet. I mean it won't get it out, but it shouldn't grenade the motor with it stuck to the oil pan.

Good job Caleb. Get an extra heavy duty magnet and fish it out, it shouldn't be THAT hard, hell that 12v battery with a screwdriver to make an electric magnet is a good idea too.

can't you get a magnet and try pulling it to the drain hole on the oil pan that would be my best guess. Yeah I did that one I was using a soap bottle with a pastic tip to put fluid in my dads transfer case and the pastic tip came off and fell in but I didnt get it out the chain was already loose and I was going to rebuild it anyway so I just left it in there and there was no prolblems before it was removed and rebuilt. But a medel bolt is alot different GOOD LUCK GETTING IT OUT!!

well i went to autozone and got me one of those telescoping magnets. i put it through the hole i dropped it in, but that was a mess, the cam, the block, the crank weights. there was no way i can get to it from there. as i was replacing my oil level sensor i put it through that hole. i moved it all over, hit the oil pump, the other side of the pan, and then the shield. didnt get it. haha the oil level sensor...the little float on that came off and thats why the sensor stopped working, but it also means i got another thing floatin in my oil pan
anyway i figure during break-in when all the oil drips back into the pan it'll wash the bolt down into the sump then when i change it after i can get it out.
