..gas prices suck and that would be enough right there to make my decision besides the maintenence costs on a VW compared to a Honda...honda's are dirt cheap and easy to fix....VW...goodluck
As for maintenance, VW's are not that much more $$$ really especially if you know where to look. And by the sounds of it, you don't.
Nothing wrong with VW but if you dont know them than you should stay away, Hondas are easy to figure out and you would more than likely not have any issues considering 100k is breakin time for the Honda motor...not so much for the VW! lol...Good Luck!
100k break-in time for a Honda motor? Although I know what you're trying to say here, but you obviously don't know anything about motors in general.
Besides that, VR6's are very much just like your 100k Honda motors, they're usualy better with high K. There's enough VR's out there with very high KM's on them that run like new.

If gas prices bother you so much go buy a Hybrid or something Because if you don't think a tuned Honda motor redlining all the time doesn't drink gas then you need to get your head checked.

If you have basic knowledge about cars, they're all the same... A motor is a motor, a tranny is a tranny... If your not willing to learn then it's best you buy a car that's fast from the factory and bring it to the stealership to service it for you.

Awww sounds like I hurt someones fragile feelings, you dont like my opinion fine but taking stabs at my knowledge of cars is useless...Everything I said makes perfect sense..so thanks for coming out tool. Have fun with ur Vdub
Edit::I just reread what all you said, sounds like a last ditch effort to try and have VW compete with a Honda, lol not going to happen. There is a reason why Hondas are doing so well both in the new car category and in the used...how is Volkswagen doing? lol...but im also in school for this so I have to know that, try as you might to talk up the VW its no where in comparison to the SIR, looks like crap, too big of a motor without enough power, repairs are a PITA cause were NOT ALL VW SPECIALISTS lol you do make me laugh tho with your pathetic arguments about the VW's grandness, VR6's are slow, heavy and usually ugly...nuff said im done with this useless arguement all the original topic starter has to do is look online at some consumer reports and he will end up with the Honda and will never look back at VW again. This is an obvious truth, thanks!

Why don't you test drive both cars n see which one you like better? I'd take the VR. Not everything is about HP. SiR has NO torque cuz its only a lil 1.6L. And the gas thing isn't true. An LS1 has the same if not better fuel economy than an S2K just cuz you don't have to beat on it to go anywhere, so it depends on your driving style. Im not even gonna get into the looks department. That was just a stupid statement cuz I've seen some pretty riced out hondas and some really clean ones. Same for VW so that also depends on the owner of the car. As for the repairs issue, I'd have to agree that honda is probably better for that but if you wanna play you gotta pay. In the end tho test drive both cars n see which one fits you better thats the only way you can really decide.

Im enjoying the debating going on its really making me think, to tell you the truth ever since ive owned my bimmer i promised myself i would never go honda and stay german but i find myself looking honda's up more often since im looking for something economical. By the looks of it if i think im leaning towards honda a little bit more these days, the SiR is looking pretty good then again so does this gs-R im looking at right now.. however it just so happens a 1.8t maybe in the picture aswell, I never thought switching markets would be so tough. I appreciate all the feedback im recieving from you guys, keep going!

Because they're not..

You're in school for this ? lmao... well good for you, you trying to impress me?
Doesn't sound like you've learned much because you think VW's are hard to work on... If that's the case you'll be in for a real supprise when you have to start working on cars that'll make you wish you never went into the automotive industry.
Too big of a motor w/o enough power? Are you stupid? The VR came out in 1993... It's a 2.8L 6cyl that is the size of a 4cyl... It's strong, and can make a lot of power by adding boost. Pound for pound the VR will make much more HP and Torque then compaired to the SIR's 1.6L.
So how is the motor ? Tell me with you school knowledge
You know what, people who are enthusiasts don't buy cars based on consumer reports... they buy cars because they like the way they drive, they way they sound, the way they feel when u'r just cruising, etc...
If you buy a car based on consumer reports or even worse on what some person says because "he's in school for this " then they mind as well go buy a toyota echo/corolla, because according to consumer reports it's better then the SIR, and any mechanic will tell you that a Toyota is more reliable then a Honda...
So I guess we should all buy Toyota's now

the thing is, the guy said he's not gonna go with boost. I think you should consider the GSR as well, I owned a bimmer as well and it broke constantly, i have absolutely nothing against the VR cause it is a nice car, the looks department totally depends on the owner's taste, i personally happen to like the GSR more than any of the other ones you mentioned. plus you are 19 so you gotta think about maintenance, gas prices, and a bunch of other like driving style (someone mentioned that before). as for reliability, i'm not saying anything about VW, cause i never owned one, but hondas are very good from that perspective.

i read all this and in the end u already bought a car... wtf.. lol.. anyway heres my 2 cents... if i could afford a vr6 or an sir i would go 4 the vr6 first of all the motor sound soooooo amazing... the vw has a nicer interior... the honda is cheaper on parts... but german cars are more relable...
