OOPS.....IT HAPPENED!
WARNING: "I was bored, so this is a pretty long thread"........SORRY!
Well..........the inevitable finally happened to me. I had my stereo turned up so loud, that you could say it had me somewhat distracted. As I was pulling into the smoke shop a fews days ago, there were about 6 guys standing right outside the front entrance just chill'n and what not, when all of them turned to look where the pounding was coming from.
As I pulled into the front parking spot, one of the guy's walked up to my passenger side window and bent over as if to say something..........and that's when it happened I hit the yellow curb stop in front of me. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Obviously with the tunes up and the bass pounding, I didn't feel a thing. And then with this guy walking up to talk to me, my mind wasn't even where it should have been. So I get out of the car (after rolling up the windows and setting the alarm) and walk around the front end, when outta the corner of my eye, I see that the bottom of my front ground piece is pushed under the car about 4 inches, and the top of it is seperated from the car about 2 inches.
In a panic, I run back around and try to open my door, (forgetting that I just set the alarm :banghead: ) so the sirens are blareing, the horn is honking, the lights are flashing, and all these guys are laughing their heads off. OOOHHHH, I was so pissed off........but I finally got it opened up and backed away from the curb.
I run back around to the front, and to my complete amazement, it looked as if I hadn't really done anything to it. It was sitting down about 1/4 of an inch from where it was mounted, but I just grabbed it and pushed it back into place against the bumper. I guess the thing that shocked me the most, was that the paint didn't hardly receive a scratch,....it didn't even spiderweb it anywhere. I'll I can say is; "My buddy definitely knows how to mix his Flex-Additive to the paint, cause there's no way that should have been able to bend that much without at least spider-webbing.
About the only thing I had to do to it, was by the next day, the double-sided tape that holds it on, caught too much air while seperated from the bumper, so it started falling off on the drivers side. It was a simple fix though, I just bought a roll of 1/2 inch 3M molding tape and re-taped the drivers side, just until we do the flames. At that time, we'll pull the whole thing off and re-mount it from scratch. I can tell you one thing......after that happened, I won't be making the same mistake again.
Here's a few pictures of it that first night, and then the next day when I fixed it...........I got so lucky I can't believe it. The last one is a close-up of where I hit the curb, but you can barely see a scratch at the bottom......and that's only a few inches away. Once it's wet-sanded for the flames, it will dissappear.

ME TOO..... especially after waiting 3 months for my painter to get them to me.
You know, when I was first putting them on, I was so worried that only having the tape hold them on in the center wasn't going to be enough. Now that this happened,....I'm really glad it was only held on with the tape.......otherwise it would have had a lot more damage. So, after that I'm definitely not going to build those brackets I was thinking about to make it more sturdy. As long as that tapes holds it as well as it does.....I'm all for the flexability.
