project help

well if any of you remember me buying a 350 a couple months ago....well i found out tonight that its a 267..****. im pissed but anyways. im just gonna try and get rid of it. at least i got the 350 in my truck. im planning on pulling it out and rebuilding it 100%. i need some help on what to get. i wanna make at least 350 hp/ 350 tq. whats the best way of doing this. i think i wanna go with a 355. maybe a 383 stroker but im not sure. i need opinions on this. whats the best thing to do in my situation. i really dont wanna spend more than 1600 on the engine...and its gonna be a while before i do that anyways. also what should i do with my trans. it needs to be rebuilt as it is. it only has first and second gear. so what kinda stuff should i have done when its rebuilt to have it beefed up? rear end suggestions? im looking to spend around 3000-3500 on the entire drivetrain since i need to put like 10k into the body to restore it. help?

what kind of trans is it? i spend $600 to get my th350 rebuilt with all the upgraded stuff... u can get a basic rebuild for id guess aorund 400 bucks, that will free up some more money for the engine, as for the engine, id look into buyin a used engine on your budget... try racing junk or somehitng similiar, maybe thirdgen.org. just look for a low mile rebuilt 350/383

yeah i have a 350 trans as well. 600 aint bad to have mine beefed up. i think ill just do that. i think im just gonna take my time with this and just buy one thing at a time. like if i find somethin cheap on ebay ill get it. im thinking ill probly just get new pistons and have everything else on the bottom end cleaned up and balanced or whatever. to make my 350 a 355 that would be boring it .30 over correct?

Well boring .30 over would be impossible, but boring .030 would yield your 355 that you speak of.

If all you have is $1600 and you need an engine, engine kit and want at least 350 hp you have your work cut out for you. Not saying it can't be done, but its going to be hard. I would say just troll around looking for someone who is selling a used motor.

$1600 is going to be tight. Especially if you need to have machine work done. You'll probably eat up close to $1000 right there. My shortblock to have bored honed, new bearings, new pistons, balanced etc, was around $1200. I had them assemble the shortblock for me to save some time, so that may have added a little bit.

Heads if you're looking cheap go with a set of Vortecs. They can be had for under $500 usually. They flow amazing and are the best bang for buck heads out there. You'll need a Vortec specific intake though cause the intake bolt holes are different then a std chevy.

Cam is going to run you probably $250. What cam depends on if you've got a roller block or not.

thanks for the help guys. i just realized how much its going to cost lol. i still plan on doing it but i guess it will be a bit longer until i have the money to do so. yeah i meant to say .030 over haha. im thinking about just getting new pistons, rings, bearings, and having the rods and crank machined if possible so i dont have to buy new ones since there is really no point. the engine is still really strong and runs smooth no knocks but it smokes terribly. im thinking it might just be from sitting but its been doing it for a while. it only has under 90k on the engine. since i have changed the oil it hasn't lost any so i dont think its burning it. im gonna seafoam it sometime this week, change the plugs and see what that does for it. if it stops smoking i might just leave the bottom end alone for now and throw an intake and carb in there. possibly heads and a cam but not for a while. i appreciate the help guys.
