They can still look really good but from my experiances they look a lot better on overcast/cloudy days. I think it's because it's still light out but you don't have the bright reflections. Of course you had a pro do yours, I talked to him and he wanted to charge me $70 to take pictures which I know isn't really high but just for pictures I thought it was a bit much.

Yeah its because there isnt any stupid sun reflections on your car to make big bursts of light on your photos.. and your cars form shows up much better. Yeah you can take them in sunlight and they may be fine, but if you take them on a cloudy day they will be better.
did you see my ?? lol yeah if you have some shitty *** digicam like i do, then its best out of the sun.....but if you have a decent camera then sunset is the best time i think.
