Tire Selection

This spring in a few months when i pull my baby out of storage i am getting corvette c5 chrome. I need to put tires on them and i am not sure of what tires i am very short for $$ and i am looking into Falken ZE-512 and the Fuzion ZRi. The only think i have against the fuzions is that my best freind with the same year camaro who had ZR1 rims uses fuzions and i dont want to look like a poser. The falkens are also 60$ cheaper. Any opinions are helpfull thanks. Also i am most likely going to do 275-40-17 all around, just so that i can rotate them when needed. Keep in mind i am a burnout enthusiast and are going for the cheapest and best deal. The Falkens also have a good looking tread design...I AM OPEN FOR ALL OPINIONS so please help me out, thanks fellow camaro enthusiasts,
Peter

the ZRIs are a better tire. go with them

98CamaroZ28 03-04-2007 08:40 PM

thats what I was thinking about getting, only 85$ a piece.

Z28killah 03-04-2007 09:36 PM

ya i found them for 88 a piece

paarman97maro 03-04-2007 09:39 PM

I just bought some falkens.. I got FK 452s... Havnet installed them yet tho.

paarman97maro 03-04-2007 09:47 PM

he has 17s.

69z-28 03-04-2007 09:58 PM

the only falken i would reccomend is the rt-615. that there is a VERY nice tire. in your situation tho, the fuzion is better bang for the buck by far.

Phate 03-04-2007 10:55 PM

You guys are too damn cheap when it comes to tires.

paarman97maro 03-04-2007 11:05 PM

Yeah haha.. thats like a little more than what I paid for the tires I have on my stockers now... and I was looking for the cheapest then

Phate 03-04-2007 11:23 PM

This is one situation, where you get what you pay for.

If its a daily driver, and you dont care about them hooking, get some cheap *** tires, but dont expect good traction, mileage, or ride.

CHINGON 03-04-2007 11:26 PM

I have Fuzion ZRi on my old wheels and they are good tire for the price.
I use them for over 6 months and they still look like new... I have no complains

what tire do u have?

Phate 03-04-2007 11:31 PM

Sumitomo HTR+ 275/45/17

Not the best tire, but my car is also my DD right now. I have my old salad shooters with some MT's on them for the track.

97z2801ss 03-04-2007 11:57 PM

I like my Toyo's

Me too, they are the best I've had.

I have had the ZE-512's on my salad shooters and they had a very weak sidewall, also I had a problem with one tearing on the inside somehow, but they have a warranty so that took care of that. Before I put the new wheels/tires on one of the other Falkens was getting a very large bulge in it, so if you are going with those, keep an eye on them.

69z-28 03-05-2007 08:39 PM

phate, your saying they are too cheap when it come to tires and you have the cheapest tires you can buy on your car.haha.

Phate 03-05-2007 10:57 PM

Sumitomo is far from the cheapest.

But im also not expecting everything out of them. I have another set of tires just for screwing around, and track use.

I was meerly saying, you get what you pay for. So if you get cheap tires, you get cheap results.

69z-28 03-05-2007 11:11 PM

you can get sumitomo 315s for under 100 bucks a peice i think. find a cheaper tire......haha

Phate 03-05-2007 11:13 PM

Depends on the type of Sumitomos you get. I got the HTR+, which isnt the highest performance, but its the midrange non directional.

I chose Sumitomos not because they were cheap though. But because japanese tires are typically amazing when it comes to quality control. And as are these. They are round as can be, and ride like a dream... for the time being.

97z2801ss 03-06-2007 01:51 AM

i think they are the tires ill stick with or BFG's

CHINGON 03-06-2007 02:22 PM

I like my Nitto, they are really good...lots of grip

TorqueDog 03-06-2007 02:36 PM

I had Sumitomo HTR-Z 315s and they were a pretty good tire.

69z-28 03-06-2007 07:55 PM

im sorry, but anyone who says that sumitomos are a good tire hasnt driven on a real tire. my friend bought 315 sumitomos for his 00 SS to burnup, and thats exactly what hes been doing. 1st and 2nd gear is useless on the street with his 3.73s and bolt ons. hes going to need at least nittos when he puts his cam in, but for now, sumitomos are worthless if you have over 250 horse. they were on my car when i bought it. stock lt1 plus 125 shot of juice and sumitomos = sideways from 60-90 mph.

You best be watchin' your tone there, junior. You talk to your elders with some respect. I've driven on more sets of rubber than times you've gotten to wear a rubber in bed with a lady. [/Old Man James]

The Sumitomos are a good tire. Not a GREAT tire. No one is claiming they're a spectacular performer, especially in comparison to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup or the BFGoodrich KDs, to name a couple.

However, they are a GOOD tire, and only a good tire. As far as value for money, if you're not rich, the Sumitomo is a respectable solution, especially if you're going to a large size (315 for example).

69z-28 03-06-2007 08:52 PM

im not disrespecting you but coming from somone who has had sumitomos on their car and also works for one of the largest tire distributors in the nation, i think i can say the sumitomo is a **** tire. the price barely makes it enough reason to buy it.

TorqueDog 03-06-2007 10:45 PM

I've talked to people who work for the largest distributors of computers & equipment, cellular providers, internet providers, etc... and much of the time, their information is skewed.

Working for != All knowing.

That's all I'm saying.

Plus I saw your age in your profile, and thought it'd be a great reason to break out the "Old Man James" act.

69z-28 03-06-2007 10:58 PM

ya everyone knows im young. doesnt mean i dont know a thing or two about some things. dont ask me how to do a derivative in calc or wtf about anthropology. im failing math and senior survey right now, but i know a bit about cars. just a little. u know. and i would agree alot of large companies have misleading information, but i think you'll find discount tire to be quite an exquisite tire company. w/e, sumitomos are cheap and work for a DD but if you have a bit of power and want to go somewhere, plan on being late.

Phate 03-06-2007 11:16 PM

Did you just call Discount Tire an 'exquisite' tire company? Hahahahahahhahahaha. Oh my god. Im seriously laughing.

They are the WORST tire/auto chain ive ever seen. We get more customers from them because they are utterly disgusted with Discount Tire. Most of the employees have NO idea what they are doing. I know some. Discount Tire is the 'Auto Zone' of tire/auto chains.

So.. 1 then? (guys dont count matt, sorry)

Z28killah 03-07-2007 01:22 AM

comon guys lets relax with the harsh language...everyone has their own opinions and lets not bring eachother or cell phone companies into tire selection....picking out out tires for high performance cars is quite the feat...so lets keep the opinions positive and consensive

we all know that pilots and eagle f1's are the top knotch stuff worth eating off of but not all of us can afford $180-$280 a tire....the purpose of this thread was to decide on some tires that are going to ride nice when your with your mom but be able to make the pavement scream with your girl and not spend a left nut for them either...no one here builds up an f-body and drives it like a grandma all the time so lets get some productive comments

Z28killah 03-07-2007 01:24 AM

i personally had yokohama avid T-4's on the stockers but now i am upgrading...the yokohama's were pretty good they could of used a stronger sidewall...but then again i just balded them out and are on their 4th season

I'll admit... I let out a muffled giggle when I read "you'll find discount tire to be quite an exquisite tire company".

Enough of this crap, go buy some Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals.

69z-28 03-07-2007 08:41 AM

you guys are tools. discount tire owns the **** out of NTB or Just Tires or anything like that. if you chuckled when i said that, you shoulda heard me laugh my *** off when you twats said sumitomos were good tires.

Phate 03-07-2007 10:44 AM

Im not a tool... most of the time. Im just being honest.

And about the Sumitomos, you are really taking out of context the way we are saying they are good tires.

TorqueDog 03-07-2007 11:37 AM

Hey, tone it down, he's only 17.

You think he has any friggin' idea what the word "context" means? :nana:

paarman97maro 03-07-2007 11:49 AM

Okay... so maybe its safe to say summitos are better for v6 cars over v8 cars? :ne_nau: Simple as that.

The V6 cars you're talking about ran consistent with their V8 counterparts. [shrug]

-_- Are any of you listening to what we are saying? This has NOTHING to do with performance. Its about how the tire is in general. Besides, my car is near the stock horsepower of a v8 :P

Phate 03-07-2007 12:01 PM

Damn. You said it before I could.

69z-28 03-07-2007 12:28 PM

phate, i can understand that maybe we're thinking differently about "good" tires, but for a "performance" tire, you cant get worse than a sumitomo, thats where im leaving it.

Torque dog, if you have a problem with me, my knowledge, my character or anything else you feel obligated to poke fun at like an immature *******, PM me about it and we can settle it. if you wanna act like your younger than me, no one is stopping you but you really look like an idiot coming on an f-body website and then calling out people who are obviously more stupid and less intelligent than yourself:rolleyes: there is constant ball busting and immaturity on this site, however it is always all in good fun among people who do truley respect one another when all the BS is put aside. if you cant do the same, leave.
