1998 honda accord windsheild wipers?

1998 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 143000 miles

I just got this car about 2 weeks ago. I just went and replaced the windsheild wipers because when I got the car, they were totally gone. I used the windsheild wipers and on the first speed they were pretty steady and I thought to myself (hm, this is pretty fast for the first speed) but when I stopped at the red light they automatically slowed down. And when I drove off from the red light, they would speed back up. I thought it was awesome(is this how they're supposed to work?). I then went to try and use my windsheild wipers the other night, and the first speed did not do this, instead it just stayed at a steady slow speed. So I turned it on the second speed, but when I would stop at the red light or any kind of stop sign the windsheild wipers would go below the windsheild glass and smack the plastic below it (where the windsheild wipers usually sit when they are turned off) and then when I would take off again to drive, they would stay above the plastic and stay on the windsheild.

I have no clue as to what would be wrong with it? Is the motor going bad for it? Please help!

I have been around Hondas for awhile and I have never heard of windshield wipers making your motor go bad. You might have just adjusted wrong when you put the new wipers on and that's why it is hitting the plastic. Loosen up the bolts that are holding it to your car, adjust it and tighten it back. Best thing I can think of.

I'm not sure about that automatic speed adjustment of the wipers when you stop and go.

I have a 1998 Honda Civic DX. My wipers do not do that. I'd have it checked out at a Honda Dealership. You should always take used cars you've purchased to a trusted mechanic to have them looked over. There is a lemon law in most states that allow you to return the car for a full refund if the car is not in good working order.
