90 Honda Accord Transmission Issue?

My 90 Accord is having some problems with the transmission. When I first put the car into drive it has trouble engaging. When I step on the gas it revs like it is in neutral. Then shifting from second to third and third to fourth the engine revs a little high while it shifts. I was told that there might be a problem with the torque converter or maybe it needs a fluid and filter change. Any ideas of what is wrong and how to fix it?

First check the fluid level if it's good you probably need a torque converter note.. the transmission and torque conv,. are to separate things.. you don't need a new tranny. most shops will check it for free. if when you step on the gas and it rev's and your not going anywhere it's usually the converter.
