burning oil?

burning oil?
my 99 ex has 188000 miles on it. it currently has an oil leak, i put 1 quart of oil the other day and within 4 days it had gone through that quart. i never saw any smoke come out of the tail pipe when i started it. could it be the oil leak or does it need to have the valves adjusted
