Can I put an engine from a 96 honda accord in a 98?
#5
You can but its not worth it. Because you are down grading the engine. 96 came in a f22 engine. 98 came with a f23 engine. Assuming you have a 96 ex engine which has vtec . lx and dx doesn't come with vtec, All f23 has vtec (maybe not ULEV). You will be down grading your engine to a slower, smaller, less horse power engine. Plus you will not be able to get it smugged. You can only replace the engine with the same year or newer engine. According to the state ref. It will be illegal. But since its and accord and the engines look similar you will be able to pass smog if your smog tech doesn't notice.
Don't do it. 98 f23 engines aren't that expensive and go for around 3-500 dollars.
