You said it broke im gussing when the moter was running right. so i would go ahead and basically time for an engine swap. because the valves at leat two of them have been bent. so its either new motor or rebuild current one which would rebuilding it your self would be rather easy and not much money if you know how to do it. last thing you could do is take the head off the block and see if the pistons are bad. if their alright then just get your self a new head and put it on with a new timing belt. its up to you ill help you do it but your to far away from me sorry

Typically if a belt breaks with a load on the engine is crapped out...but sometimes and i bet in your case from a stop(little to no load) the internals should be ok...
Its pretty easy to change and you're better off getting a waterpump while your at it All it is timing the two sprockets with one another meaning the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket to put the belt on you just have to release pressure off the belt by relaxing the tensioner and sliding the belt on but align the marks with each other mark of camshaft sprocket @ 6 oclock and mark of crankshaft @ 12 o'clock... why waste money on a new swap or motor when changing the timing belt and waterpump is always the first thing you do with the swap for security reasons anyways give it a shot if it works then you'll be saving yourself money
I could do it at my shop for you but your could do it yourself...it'll be about $350 with everything but if i do it and it doesnt run right you take the risk right...grab oem honda parts they'll cost you probably $200 ish

also, finding parts for a ZC over here may be a task on its own. honda dealer here says they dont support the ZC. and since the belt broke at idle the motor is probly just fine.

Swapping a motor into that car is pretty much the easiest thing in the auto industry =P...I wouldn't even bother keeping the motor, regardless of whather or not it snapped at idle...may as well just pick up a "new" motor...time to call around =/

well you could always try to change the belt yourself first. i mean theres no harm in changing the belt to see how it runs first, if it doesnt work out, your gonna have to swap the engine. i personally would try the to change the belt first and if it runs good, great i save some money and if it doesnt engine swap it is. god damn labour is so expensive. lol or jsut sell the car as is. j/k

I dont mean to be a dick, but I dont think you've ever done a honda timing belt before. there is no special tool to do a timing belt on a zc, or any older honda motor, and there are very few crappy tire employees that I would trust to tell me how to fix my car.

1. remove accessory belts
2. remove crank pulley (there is a special tool to make this easier, but not all pulleys accept the tool. I dont believe JDM pulleys accept it.
3. remove valve cover
4. remove upper and lower timing covers
5. place a jack under the motor to take the weight off the motor mount
6. remove the driver side motor mount
7. loosen timing belt tensioner
8. remove old belt
9. align notch on crank timing gear with notch on block
10. align mark on cam gear with marks on head
11. slip on belt
12. tighten tensioner (no more than 1/2 inch of play in longest span of belt)
13. re-install all covers and motor mount
14. re-install crank pulley and accessory belts
15. start motor

simple as that. sounds threatening, but easy as hell. just take your time and you'll be fine.

also, if it runs like complete *** or wont even fire, the cam could be half a turn off.
after the belt is installed the marks on the gears must still be perfect, haynes or chilton manuals can help you align the marks, pictures really help.

as I said before, finding a sohc ZC timing belt is probably going to be a pain in the ***. Dont quote me, but I think it may be the same belt as a D16A6.

If anyone needs to know, the 1.6l DOHC that came in '87 integras is basically a DOHC ZC, most parts are interchangable.

As civtegra was saying the Sohc zc is highly compatible with the d16a6. This would mean you are looking for a 88-91 civic timing belt. For reassurance take your broken timing belt into canadian tire to compare it with the civic timing belt.

Like everyone is saying you should tackle this job yourself because it is not hard at all. If you are mechanically inclinded what so ever pick up a service manual for the 88-91 civic and it will guide you through everything.
