2003 Honda Civic EX - What engine swap options are the best for my '03 Civic EX 2dr?

Have a 2003 Honda Civic EX with around 171k on the original engine. Lookin to swap out to somethin better, with either more power or better mileage for less than $600 or so. Should I even take the time and effort? Sell the car while it still has value? Let me know what you guys think. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
