Exclamation 2004 Acura RSX Type S

Bolts & Washers

Rudy Falcon's 2004 Rsx Type S

Propulsion

TWM 52mm individual throttle bodies breathe life into the K20 Type S mill. IPS K2 cams, valvesprings, and retainers help the engine turn and burn, with a Toda header and exhaust duo guiding gasses into the atmosphere. Innovative motor mounts help shake Rudy's fillings, while a Hondata K-Pro ECU calls the shots.

Stance

Preston of Function & Form provided the F2 adjustable coilovers, while the Mugen stockroom was raided for a set of strut tower bars. Hotchkis front and rear sway bars deflect the body roll, with a Carbing lower tie bar and J's Racing C pillar bar stiffening up the rear end. Added safety and rigidity is realized with an Autopower four-point roll bar.

Resistance

Stock rotors and calipers slow Rudy's roll with the aid of Project Mu brake pads and Motul brake fluid, though a big-brake upgrade is on the "to do" list

Rims & Rubber

Take your pick: 17x8 +35 Dunlop CPR's wrapped in Kumho 215/45/17 rubber, or bronze 17x8 +45 MUGEN MF10's shod in Falken RT615 225/45/17, you can't go wrong either way.

Fashion

Exterior

The most noticeable upgrade is the MUGEN front bumper and hood, but don't forget the Acura A-spec side skirts, ITR Rear bumper and lip, ITR wing, ITR Side markers, ITR headlights, and optional window visors, as they all play a role in completing the sinister look.

Interior

If the ultra pricey Bride Low Max Kevlar seats, KEY!S suede steering wheel, and Mugen shift **** and pedals don't hold your attention, flip open the Pioneer DV57000 head unit and iPod link to enjoy some tunes. That is, if you can hear them over the symphony being produced under the hood.

Last but not least, everyone from Peoples Choice-"We form as one to build like none."-Falcon

----------------------------

In February of 2007, we attended the Chinatown Showoff, hoping to find a feature-worthy build for an upcoming issue, and with any luck, lock down a cover story. After approximately 30 minutes of wading through the JDM-soaked parking lot, we hit the jackpot; a spotless '04 RSX Type S build like no other. The car's immaculate white exterior, combined with the Fort Knox engine bay treatment and high-quality interior beamed with originality. That was it. We'd found our cover car.

Purchased brand new in the Spring of 2004, Falcon started things off slowly with the requisite drop, lip kit and wheels. It wasn't until he'd saved enough money to purchase the prized Mugen front bumper cover that he revealed he was on a mission, one that would ultimately separate his build from the herd. Getting into a rhythm, the pieces began to fall strategically into place. Acura A-spec sideskirts along with a grocery list of OEM ITR exterior pieces, including headlights, wing, side markers, rear bumper with lip, and optional window visors enhanced the already sleek bodylines.

With the outward appearance of the car up to par, demolition began on the interior. First to go were the original gray plastic panels, making room for a black panel swap. Cop a seat in one of the Bride Gias Low Max Kevlar bucket seats, and your wallet may spontaneously combust. With a price tag for just one seat eclipsing that of a quality name brand set of wheels, these seats hold a permanent position on the wish list of even the most extravagant builder. The seats feature red stitching that complement the fireball red ITR carpet, floor mats, and door panel inserts perfectly. A very rare KEY!S suede steering wheel enhances the driving experience, backed by a set of Mugen billet aluminum pedals and shift ****. Mugen was also called upon to supply the aluminum pedestal that proudly supports the Hondata K-Pro equipped ECU on the passenger side floorboard. Additional personal safety measures have been addressed with a polished Autopower four-point roll bar and Takata race harnesses in preparation for the worst.

Once the interior was completed, the suspension received some much-needed attention. To achieve the aggressive stance he was after, Falcon contacted Preston of Function/Form, and sourced a set of F2 adjustable coilovers. An Ingalls rear camber kit allows some dial in adjustability, while the Hotchkis sway bars, Carbing tie bar, and Mugen strut tower bars add some stiffness to an already rigid chassis. No package is complete without the proper rolling stock, and there's nothing more proper than a set of white 17x8 Dunlop CPR's. As if to rub it in our face, a backup set of 17x8 Mugen MF10's can be swapped out at will.

This point in the build is where things get really interesting. With the help of Mike of Plan B Motorsports, a serious plan of attack was devised for the car's engine bay. The objective was to clear out as much space as possible, getting down to the "bare bones" look that so many strive for under the hood. This included relocating the battery and fuse box. But that almost goes unnoticed behind the quartet of TWM 52mm throttle bodies that replace the bulky stock intake system. Finally a Toda exhaust manifold snakes its way under the chassis, and connects to a Toda exhaust system to help encourage flow.

In an attempt to push the envelope even further, an imaginary boundary between lowrider and import cars was erased. The decision was made to gold dip the valve cover, motor mounts, lower front and rear cross members and air horns for a high contrast look against the Premium Pearl White body that must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. It's the perfect execution of beauty and brawn, without losing sight of good taste and function, which is a rare occurrence these days.

Initial shakedown tuning with the IPS valvetrain puts peak power at the 251hp and 182 lb-ft of torque mark currently, but he's not finished yet. Falcon will first explore the world of big-brake upgrades, followed by a dive into a whole new block, with more compression, and perhaps more displacement. If the first phase of this build is any indication of what's to come, you'll be hearing a lot more from this RSX and its owner.
